This paper reports the results of the numerical study of the formation of aspherical Planetary Nebulae through the Generalised Interacting Winds Model, taking into account the eeects caused by the evolving central star and fast wind. The results show for the rst time that aspherical nebulae do form within the required time scale. Consideration of the development of the nebula shows that in the ...
This review describes some general properites of proto-planetary nebulae with particular emphasis on the recent work of morpholgical studies. The weight of observational evidence shows that proto-planetary nebulae (PPNe) are most certainly axisymmetric like planetary nebulae. Recent work suggests two subclasses of PPNe optical morphology, DUst-Prominent Longitudinally-EXtended (DUPLEX) and Star...
The giant planet region in our solar system appears to be bounded inside by the limit of water condensation, suggesting that the most abundant astrophysical condensate plays an important role in giant planet formation. Indeed, Jupiter and Saturn exhibit evidence for rock and/or ice cores or central concentrations that probably accumulated first, acting as nuclei for subsequent gas accumulation....
ABSTRACT We present evidence that the nebular cocoon and bow-shock emission nebula putatively recently reported as deriving from 9th magnitude ‘runaway’ star HD 185806 is previously discovered but obscure Planetary Nebula WHTZ 1 (Ra 7). It has a Gaia DR3 G∼16 blue ionizing at its geometric centre. imagery, spectroscopy, other data arguments to support this source high excitation not stellar win...
Very recently, the discovery of the largest known planetary nebula on the sky surrounding the DO white dwarf PG 1034+001 with an apparent diameter of about 2 • , corresponding to a linear diameter of 3.5-7.0 pc at the likely distance of 100-200 pc, has been reported by Hewett et al. (2003). A careful inspection of available sky survey data has now shown that this planetary nebula, Hewett 1, is ...
We present the mid-infrared spectrum of the planetary nebula IC 2448. In order to determine the chemical composition of the nebula, we use the infrared line fluxes from the Spitzer spectrum along with optical line fluxes from the literature and ultraviolet line fluxes from archival IUE spectra. We determine an extinction of CHβ = 0.27 from hydrogen recombination lines and the radio to Hβ ratio....
The first observations of the infrared spectrum of the LMC planetary nebula SMP 83 as observed by the recently launched Spitzer Space Telescope are presented. The high resolution (R ∼ 600) spectrum shows strong emission lines but no significant continuum. The infrared fine structure lines are used, together with published optical spectra, to derive the electron temperature of the ionized gas fo...
The spatial distribution of the emission in the v = 1-0 S ( 1) line of H 2 in the planetary nebula NOC 7027 is presented. The excited H2 molecules do not fill the same volume as the ionized gas and most likely reside near the outer edge of the nebula. The spatial resolution of the data, 51(, is insufficient to define the location of the molecules precisely. An upper limit to the strength of the...
We present radio observations of the unique, recently formed, planetary nebula (PN) associated with a very long-period OH/IR variable star V1018 Sco that is unequivocally still in its asymptotic giant branch phase. Two regions within the optical nebula are clearly detected in nonthermal radio continuum emission, with radio spectral indices comparable to those seen in colliding-wind Wolf-Rayet b...
