BACKGROUND In Saccharomyces cerevisiae galactose is initially metabolized through the Leloir pathway after which glucose 6-phosphate enters glycolysis. Galactose is controlled both by glucose repression and by galactose induction. The gene PGM2 encodes the last enzyme of the Leloir pathway, phosphoglucomutase 2 (Pgm2p), which catalyses the reversible conversion of glucose 1-phosphate to glucose...
In this paper, mechanistic aspects involved in the formation of N2O over Pt-BaO/Al2O3 and Rh-BaO/Al2O3 model NOx Storage-Reduction (NSR) catalysts are discussed. The reactivity of both gas-phase NO and stored nitrates was investigated by using H2 and NH3 as reductants. It was found that N2O formation involves the presence of gas-phase NO, since no N2O is observed upon the reduction of nitrates ...
Abstract Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is considered the bottleneck in fuel cells. Its sluggish kinetics requires use of scarce and expensive platinum group metal (PGM) catalysts. Significant efforts have been invested trying to find a PGM‐free catalyst replace Pt for this or reduce its loadings. One interesting family materials that has shown great promise doing so aerogels, which are based ...
In this short communication, we present preliminary data on the Re-Os isotopic systematics of platinum-group minerals (PGM) recovered from different horizons in Falcondo Ni-laterite Dominican Republic. The results show differences Os-isotope composition populations PGM: (i) pre-lateritic PGM yield 187Os/188Os varying 0.11973 ± 0.00134 to 0.12215 0.00005 (2σ uncertainty) whereas (ii) lateritic a...
This report describes a draft genome sequence of Lactobacillus fermentum strain UCO-979C. The reads generated by a Ion Torrent PGM were assembled into contigs, with a total size of 2.01 Mb. The data were annotated using the NCBI GenBank and RAST servers. Specific features of the genome are highlighted.
We describe occurrences of platinum-group minerals (PGM) and an uncommon mineral enriched in Cl, provide a brief review Cl-bearing associated with basic–ultrabasic complexes. An unusual phosphohedyphane-like phase (~30 µm), close to CaPb4(PO4)3Cl, occurs one the PGM-bearing veins massive sulfides Monchepluton layered complex, Kola Peninsula, Russia. These consist varying amounts pyrrhotite, pen...
Moderate osmolality can stimulate bacterial growth at temperatures near the upper limit for growth. We investigated the mechanism by which high osmolality enhances the thermotolerance of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, by isolating bacteriophage MudI1734-induced insertion mutations that blocked the growth-stimulatory effect of 0.2 M NaCl at 45 degrees C. One of these mutations proved t...
α-Phosphoglucomutase (α-PGM) is an enzyme that is essential for the growth of Lactococcus lactis. The enzyme links bacterial anabolism with sugar utilization through glycolysis by catalyzing the reversible interconversion of glucose 6-phosphate and α-glucose 1-phosphate. The gene encoding α-PGM was cloned and overexpressed in L. lactis. The purified protein was functionally active and was cryst...
