Peritoneal tuberculosis is rare with increased incidence rates in recent years. The absence of characteristic clinical features of the disease often makes its diagnosis difficult and elusive. We present the case of 61-year-old female with peritoneal tuberculosis. The patient suffered from abdominal pain for a period of 5 months prior to admission. The diagnosis was established on the basis of f...

This study aims to examine the feasibility of applying the focused ultrasound examination (FAST) in the initial assessment of the trauma patient. Its advantage over diagnostic peritoneal lavage lies in the speed in which it can be performed, its non-invasiveness and repeatability. Over the period January 1997 to July 1998, the FAST examination (Acuson 128XP/10, 3.5 MHz probe) was used to assess...

A 32-year-old man presented with severe abdominal pain and ascites. His medical history included diagnosis of Sandifer syndrome, scoliosis requiring 3 spinal surgeries, microgastria, and hiatal hernia repair, and most recently, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (7 weeks prior). Postprocedural abdominal pain led to a computed tomography (CT)3 scan which confirmed ascites. The possibility of a postcho...

Well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma of the peritoneum (WDPMP) is a rare subtype of epithelioid mesothelioma, which is usually seen in young women without a history of asbestos exposure, and generally, has an indolent course. The relative rarity of this neoplasm in males prompted us to report this case of a well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma of the peritoneum in a 36-year-old man....

In this paper we define a lexical metrology in graphs of verbal synonymy to compute the flexsemic score of speakers from their verbal productions in action denomination tasks. This flexsemic score is used to automatically categorize young children versus young adults. We show that this score is effective in French and in Mandarin.

Chylous ascites is a well-known complication of severe nephrotic syndrome. However, the coexistence of chylous ascites and chylothorax is rarely reported in adult nephrotic syndrome [1]. A 66-year-old man was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome 10 months before, presenting with progressive anasarca, dyspnea, abdominal fullness, persistent heavy proteinuria, and a 10.5 kg body weight gain. The pat...
