Impacted canines, due to systemic or local factors, represent a frequent problem in most populations. Surgical intervention usually involves exposure for spontaneous eruption, exposure for orthodontic traction or extraction. The author presents the apicotomy technique, which has been successfully used during the past twenty years for conservative intervention in cases of impacted upper canines ...

Vertical root fracture is a frequent complication in endodontically treated teeth and usually leads to extraction of the affected tooth. Differential diagnosis may be difficult, especially in patients with periodontal and endodontic disease. This case report describes the diagnosis and clinical and radiographic features of apical periodontitis and vertical root fracture of the same tooth, which...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histologic response after replantation of mature, developed teeth without endodontic treatment in monkeys. To serve as experimental controls, the other replanted teeth received endodontic treatment. No significant differences were noted in the rate and quality of periodontal tissues healing between the endodonticall and the nonendodontically treafed...

Mastoid subperiosteal abscess (SA) is the most common complication of acute mastoiditis. Today, no uniformly accepted diagnostic or treatment protocols exist. Imaging studies for all patients and mastoidectomy plus myringotomy, traditionally constitute the gold-standard of treatment methods. However, more conservative approaches viewed as safe and reliable alternative options for the clinician ...

This study investigated the presence of the Treponema species in longstanding endodontic retreatment-resistant lesions of teeth with apical periodontitis, the association of this species with clinical/radiographic features, and the association among the different target species. Microbial samples of apical lesions were collected from twenty-five adult patients referred to endodontic surgery aft...

Mandibular premolars usually have a single root and canal. Complex root canal system with atypical variations is a common finding among them. Failure to identify such a one can affect the prognosis of endodontic treatment. Apart from knowledge and sophisticated instruments, a good clinical expertise is required in identifying, tracing and treating such a root canal system. This case report is o...

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to establish whether addition of a 2% chlorhexidine rinse to a conventional treatment protocol enhances the rate of the successful disinfection of the root canal system in vivo. STUDY DESIGN Twenty-four teeth with infected necrotic pulps and resorbing apical periodontitis were treated with a conventional technique in which 1% NaOCl as irrigant was used....

Great attention has been given to the study of radiolucent periapical lesions to avert possible misdiagnosis of apical periodontitis associated with certain radiolucent non-endodontic lesions. However, there are a significant number of radiopaque lesions found in the periapical region, which could be equally relevant to endodontic practice. The diagnosis and management of these radiopaque/hyper...
