This paper describes the synthesis and application of PEGylated liposome-coated quantum dots (QDs)/mesoporous silica core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) for molecular imaging. This system increases biocompatibility and stability of QDs, thus improving the imaging effects in labeling of cancer cells.
A unique, sensitive, and highly specific immunoassay system for antibodies using gold nanoparticles has been developed. The assay is based on the aggregation of gold nanoparticles that are coated with protein antigens in the presence of their corresponding antibodies. The aggregation of the gold nanoparticles results in an absorption change at 620 nm that is monitored using an absorption plate ...
Polyelectrolyte surface-modified cowpea mosaic virus (CPMV) can be used for the templated synthesis of narrowly dispersed gold nanoparticles. Cationic polyelectrolyte, poly(allylamine) hydrochloride, is electrostatically bound to the external surface of the virus capsid. The polyelectrolyte-coated CPMV promotes adsorption of aqueous gold hydroxide anionic species, prepared from gold(III) chlori...
The endothelial phenotype of tumor blood vessels differs from the liver and forms an important base for endothelium-specific targeting by antibody-coated nanoparticles. Although differences of shear stress and ligand avidity can modulate the nanoparticle binding to endothelium, these mechanisms are still poorly studied. This study analyzed the binding of antibody-coated nanoparticles to tumor a...
Co-delivery approach has been recommended to reduce the amount of each drug and to achieve the synergistic effect for cancer treatment. CUR and SF have antitumor effects, but their application is limited because of their low water solubility and poor oral bioavailability. To improve the bioavailability and solubility of SF and CUR, we performed an innovative co-delivery of SF and CUR with magne...
Fluorescently-labelled nanoparticles show great promise for nanoparticle tracking and detection in biological or medical applications. However, these fluorescent molecules functionalized on the surface of can impact interaction with biomolecules, cells, subsequently influence their uptake. To explore extent interactions, PEGylated gold were six structurally different dyes to demonstrate that pr...
Novel approaches in synthesis of spherical and multispiked gold nanoparticles coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and pH Low Insertion Peptide (pHLIP®) were introduced. The presence of a tumor-targeting pHLIP® peptide in the nanoparticle coating enhances the stability of particles in solution and promotes a pH-dependent cellular uptake. The spherical particles were prepared with sodium citrat...
In this research, a simple and efficient cathodic electrochemical deposition (CED) route wasdeveloped for the preparation of magnetite nanoparticles (NPs) in an aqueous media. Thesurface of magnetite NPs was also coated for the first time via an in situ procedure during theCED process. In this method, initially, the Fe3O4 NPs (with size ~10 nm) were prepared from theFe2+/Fe3+ chloride bath thro...
The Fe3O4/CeO2 magnetic photocatalyst was prepared by coating directly onto the surface of magnetic Fe3O4 particles. However a direct contact of CeO2 onto the surface of magnetic Fe3O4 particles presented unfavorable heterojunction, thus the SiO2 barrier layer between magnetic Fe3O4 and CeO2 was prepared as a core-shell stucture to reduce the negative effect by combining three steps of the hydr...
We present a method for permeabilizing cells using a disposable substrate coated with gold nanoparticles. Upon laser irradiation, the unique photothermal properties of the gold nanoparticles facilitate selective permeabilization of the cellular membrane using patterned laser images. The permeabilization of the cell membrane is characterized by intercalation of fluorescent Calcein dye.
