P. F. MacNeilage, M. G. Studdert-Kennedy, and B. Lindblom (1987) proposed a progression for handedness in primates that was supposed to account for the evolution of a right bias in human handedness. To test this proposal, the authors performed meta-analyses on 62 studies that provided individual data (representing 31 species: 9 prosimians, 6 New World monkeys, 10 Old World monkeys, 2 lesser ape...
Alan Pears originally trained as an engineer and educator. He was worked in the sustainable energy area since the late 1970s. During the 1980s, he worked for the Victorian government, implementing appliance energy labelling and dwelling insulation regulations, among many projects. Since 1991 he has been a consultant, and has been involved across the spectrum of energy efficiency issues, from de...
We show that Gentzen’s sequent calculus admits generalization of semi-terms of particularly simple form. This theorem extends one of the main results in [BS95] to languages L with functions of arbitrary arity and the central result in [KP88] to semi-terms.

Radiopharmaceuticals are radioactive compounds that are prepared by a radiopharmasist and used in Nuclear Medicine departments for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes of human diseases. They are generally used i.v. so they have to be sterile and apyrogenic like other parenteral drugs. Effecting in a correct way and localising in the desired tissue with a sufficient amount, physicians and Nuclear...

H+-ATPase activity in leaves and roots of coconut palms growing in 'root wilt disease-prevalent areas' was compared with that of coconut palms growing in 'disease-free areas'. The activity was found to be significantly less in the leaves and roots of palms in the disease-prevalent zone as compared to that in disease-free zone. Histochemical examination of the leaves showed results that corrobor...
In the title compound, [(Ph(3)P)(2)N](+)·[Cl-H-Cl](-) or C(36)H(30)NP(2) (+)·Cl(2)H(-), the H atom of the [Cl-H-Cl](-) anion and the N atom of the [(Ph(3)P)(2)N](+) cation are located on a twofold axis, yielding overall symmetry 2 for both the cation and the anion. The central P-N-P angle [144.12 (13)°] of the cation is in the expected range and indicates only weak cation-anion inter-actions. T...
The packing of the genomic DNA in the living cell is essential for its biological function. While individual aspects of the genome architecture, such as DNA and nucleosome structure or the arrangement of chromosome territories are well studied, much information is missing for a unified description of cellular DNA at all its structural levels. Computer modeling can contribute to such a descripti...
Mitotic chromosomes are the iconic structures into which the genome is packaged to ensure its accurate segregation during mitosis. Although they have appeared on countless journal cover illustrations, there remains no consensus on how the chromatin fiber is packaged during mitosis. In fact, work in recent years has both added to existing controversies and sparked new ones. By contrast, there ha...
