The ow of traac on a long section of road without entrances or exits can be modelled by continuum equations similar to those describing uid ow. In a certain range of traac density, steady ow becomes unstable against the growth of a cluster, or \phantom" traac jam, which moves at a slower speed than the otherwise homogeneous ow. We show that near the onset of this instability, traac ow is descri...

In this note, we provide simple proofs of consistency for two well-known algorithms for mean curvature motion, Almgren-Taylor-Wang's [1] variational approach, and Merriman-Bence-Osher's algorithm [3]. Our techniques, based on the same notion of strict suband super ows, also work in the (smooth) anisotropic case.

A workkow history manager maintains the information essential for workkow monitoring and data mining as well as for recovery and authorization purposes. Certain characteristics of workkow systems like the necessity to run these systems on heterogeneous, autonomous and distributed environments and the nature of data, prevent history management in workkows to be handled by the classical data mana...

Modern enterprises increasingly use the work ow paradigm to prescribe how business processes should be performed. Processes are typically modeled as annotated activity graphs. We present an approach for a system that constructs process models from logs of past, unstructured executions of the given process. The graph so produced conforms to the dependencies and past executions present in the log...

This paper describes a work ow speci cation language namely MFDL and the implementation of its scheduler in a distributed environment Distributed nature of the scheduling provides failure resilience and increased performance Since work ow scheduling and management is highly a ected from the way the work ow is speci ed a work ow speci cation language should be e cient to prevent the problems of ...

It has been over ten years since the rst work ow product was introduced. Despite the large number of work ow vendors and research e orts all over the world, despite all the rosy predictions about the work ow market, and despite all the hype about the work ow technology, work ow is still far from pervasive. This paper tries to understand the situation from a technical point of view, focusing on ...

To realize effective knowledge sharing in teamwork, this paper proposes a knowledge ¯ow model for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and management in cooperative teams. The model consists of the concepts, rules and methods about the knowledge ¯ow, the knowledge ¯ow process model, and the knowledge ¯ow engine. A reference model for coordinating the knowledge ¯ow process with the work¯ow process is ...

The de®nition and maintenance of work¯ow processes have become important tasks for enterprises as work¯ow management systems (WFMS) are systematically applied to critical business processes. In order to simplify the management and usage of work¯ow processes and to integrate with other applications, a good modeling method is essential. The WFCP-net (work¯ow-net based on colored Petri net) is an ...

This paper presents a new forward-in-time advection method for nearly incompressible ow, MU, and its application to an adaptive multilevel ow solver for atmospheric ows. MU is a modi cation of Leonard et al.'s (1993) UTOPIA scheme. MU, like UTOPIA, is based on third-order accurate semiLagrangian multidimensional upwinding for constant velocity ows. For varying velocity elds, MU is a second-orde...

This paper studies the contribution of in‡ow and out‡ow rates to the unemployment dynamics in the long-run. I …nd that in the U.S., both in‡ow and out‡ow rates contribute signi…cantly to variation in the long-run trend of the unemployment rate. In‡ow and out‡ow rates account for roughly similar proportions of overall unemployment variability in the long-run. Keywords: Unemployment dynamics; Job...
