Background Recently, personalized external aortic root support (PEARS) has been proposed as an alternative prophylactic surgery to prevent dilatation of the aortic root and dissection in Marfan syndrome patients. Briefly, a model of each patient’s aortic root and ascending aorta is created based on cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images. The model is then used to produce a bespoke external aor...
A new species of the genus Microtendipes Kieffer, 1915, Microtendipes zhejiangensissp.n., is described, and its morphological description and illustrations are given. A catalogue of the genus in Oriental Region is provided and a key to the males of Microtendipes in the Oriental Region is given.

Recently, a severe slime mold infestation affected oriental melon plants in fields in Chilgok county, Gyeongbuk province, Korea. Specimens were collected from the fields and examined for identification. A species of Myxomycetes, Fuligo gyrosa, was identified based on its morphological characteristics. This is the first report that F. gyrosa causes slime mold of oriental melon.
A multi-component systems approach is proposed to reduce the risk of oriental fruit fly infestation in ‘Sharwil’ avocados exported from Hawaii into the United States to an acceptable level. This systems approach is based on poor host status, limited distribution and low prevalence. Recent surveys suggest oriental fruit fly populations are naturally low in Hawaii’s small avocado orchards. Mainta...
Oriental bit tersweet (Cc1a.rtru.s or-biculutus), an introduced vine from southeast Asia, has become a serious threat to native forests in the eastern United States. It is typical of many exotic species in that quantitative ecological relationships are unavailable for assessment or management. We devised a rapid survey technique useful for hazard rating and modeled the probability of occurrence...
Pear trees (Pyrus communis L.), cv. d’Anjou, received foliar applications of X-77 surfactant and 32.3 mM CaCl2 at 55, 85, 125, and 137 days after full bloom (DAFB) and fruit were harvested at 147 DAFB. Samples of fruit were stored in air either at 20 °C continuously or at 5 or 10 °C for several periods, then transferred to 20 °C, to determine the effects of storage temperature and CaCl2 treatme...
Intergenomic F1 hybrids between L. auratum x L. henryi and their BC1 progeny were investigated through genomic in situ hybridization technique (GISH) to determine their potential value in lily breeding. We confirmed that F1 intergenomic hybrids possessed a set of chromosomes (x=12) from both parents and that flowers of the F1 auratum × henryi hybrid showed an intermediate morphological phenotyp...
Oxyceroides gen. nov., including three new species, O. gracilis sp. nov., O. sinica sp. nov. and O. tangi sp. nov. from South China in the Oriental region are described and illustrated. Related genera from other biogeographical realms are briefly discussed. Identification keys to the known Oriental Oxycerini and to the three new species of Oxyceroides are given.
