A simple linear mixing model of heterogeneous soil-vegetation system and retrieval of component temperatures from directional remote sensing measurements by inverting this model is evaluated in this paper using observations by a thermal camera. The thermal camera was used to obtain multi-angular TIR (Thermal Infra-Red) images over vegetable and orchard canopies. A whole thermal camera image was...

Similar in nature to an image mosaic, a photo-stencil is a rendering of a binary target image by an arrangement of smaller binary stencil images. This paper presents a method for efficiently creating photo-stencil images, making use of the Fast Fourier Transform to speed up costly computations. The resulting photo-stencils are a new and interesting form of nonphotorealistic rendering.

Vegetation is a climate modifier: It primary modifier, such as the Amazon rain forest, or secondary agricultural fields of Pannonian lowlands in Central Europe. At periods winter crop spring renewal and start orchard growing season, enhanced evapotranspiration shifts energy balance partitions from sensible toward latent heat flux. This surface flux alteration converges into boundary layer, it c...

During the past year, we reared and released approximately 40,000 parasites of the Guthion-resistant strain of walnut aphid parasite, Trioxys pallidus, into a walnut orchard near Red Bluff, CA. Parasites were recovered three times during the season following release and results of bioassays indicate the resistant strain has established and persisted through its first field season in this orchar...

Chilling of avocado fruit (Persea americana cv. Arad) in the orchard caused a dramatic induction of fruit ripening and a parallel increase in ethylene biosynthesis and receptor genes' expression during shelf life. In-orchard chilling stress stimulated ethylene and CO(2) production already in fruit attached to the tree, and these reduced thereafter during 20 degrees C storage. In non-chilled con...

Orange trees are widely cultivated in Mediterranean climatic regions where they are an important agricultural crop. Citrus have been characterized as emitters of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in chamber studies under controlled environmental conditions, but an extensive characterization at field scale has never been performed using modern measurement methods, and is particularly needed consi...

In California, pre-emergence herbicide residues have been measured in runoff water from citrus orchards that resulted from winter rainfall. This study measured the effect of rainfall on the redistribution of herbicides within a citrus orchard and the effect that shallow mechanical incorporation had on residue movement. Simulated rainfall treatments were applied to plots within a citrus orchard ...

The former use of chlordecone (CLD) in the French West Indies has resulted in long-term pollution of soils and subsequently of food chains. In contaminated areas, free-range ducks used to control weeds in orchards may be exposed to CLD through polluted soil ingestion. The question arises whether they may be consumed. Muscovy ducks were raised on a guava orchard planted on a soil moderately cont...

Apple orchard management practices may affect development and phenology of arthropod pests, such as the codling moth (CM), Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), which is a serious internal fruit-feeding pest of apples worldwide. Estimating population dynamics and accurately predicting the timing of CM development and phenology events (for instance, adult flight, and egg-hatch) allows...
