Nick Bostrom, in his new book SuperIntelligence, argues that the the creation of an artificial intelligence with human-level intelligence will be followed fairly soon by the existence of an almost omnipotent superintelligence, with consequences that may well be disasterous for humanity. He considers that it is therefore a top priority for mankind to figure out how to imbue such a superintellige...

A bstract In this paper we study three-dimensional orbifolds by 2-groups with a trivially-acting one-form symmetry group BK . These have global two-form symmetry, and so one expects that they decompose into (are equivalent to) disjoint union of other theories, which demonstrate. theories can be interpreted as sigma models on 2-gerbes, whose formal structures reflect properties the orbifold cons...

In medical, biological and social science, three-dimensional contingency tables with ordered categories usually arise and one expects a monotone association, yet one may prefer not to assume a particular parametric model. One of its key roles is how to estimate its parameters under monotonic restrictions. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimation under ...

We consider a string inspired effective Lagrangian for the graviton and dilaton, containing Einstein gravity at the zero slope limit. The numerical solution of the problem shows asymptotically an inflationary universe. The time is measured by the dilaton, as one expects. The result is independent of the introduction of ad-hoc self interactions for the dilaton field.

Developing an autonomous intelligent vacuuming robot for household floors is not an easy task. The function of an autonomous vacuuming robot can be simply stated as to autonomously vacuum household floors while interacting appropriately with things one normally expects to find on floor such as furnitures, pets, trash, etc. However, underlying this simple job description are its numerous tough j...
