In this paper the centrifugal pump performances are tested when handling water and viscous oils as Newtonian fluids. Also, this paper shows a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional fluid flow inside a centrifugal pump. For these numerical simulations the SIMPLEC algorithm is used for solving governing equations of incompressible viscous/turbulent flows through the pump. The k-ε turbulenc...

We consider a non periodic homogenization model designed to simulate the blood flow at the level of the micro-vascularised tissues. We solve elliptic partial differential equations with two length-scales on the domain and we use the reduced-basis method to speed up the numerical resolution. Finally, we show numerical results and comparisons in 2D and 3D.

In this paper we propose an algebraic full multigrid algorithm for efficient and robust numerical solution of arbitrary linear systems of equations arising in image reconstruction from projections in computerized tomography. Numerical experiments and comparisons with the classical Kaczmarz algebraic reconstruction technique are presented.

Explicit finite difference and finite element schemes are constructed to solve wave propagation, shock, and impact problems. The schemes rely on exponential functions and the solution of linearised Rlemann problems in order to reduce the effects of numerical dispersion and diffusion. The relationship of the new schemes to existing explicit schemes is analysed and numerical results and compariso...

In estimating the unknown location of a rectangular signal observed with white noise, the asymptotic risks of three important estimators are compared under L1/L2 losses. A different numerical scheme is used to improve the accuracy of Ibragimov/Hasminskii’s result, which also leads to further information and numerical comparisons about the problem.

In this paper, we present fourth-order finite difference method for solving nonlinear one-dimensional Burgers equation. This method is unconditionally stable. The convergence analysis of the present method is studied and an upper bound for the error is derived. Numerical comparisons are made with most of the existing numerical methods for solving this equation. 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights res...

We describe and illustrate numerical procedures that combine grid and particle solvers for the solution of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. These procedures include vortex in cell (VIC) and domain decomposition schemes. Numerical comparisons with pure finitedifference methods demonstrate the effectiveness of these techniques for various flow geometries, bounded or unbounded.

The one dimensional Burgers' equation is solved numerically using a finite element method, where a combination of cubic B-splines is used as an approximating function. Different comparisons for the test problem in hand, are made to validate the proposed numerical technique. Results obtained from the proposed numerical scheme are found to be in good agreement with the exact solution.

A generalized Van del Pol oscillator with slowly varying parameter is studied. The leading order approximate solutions are obtained respectively by three methods and comparisons are made with numerical results. Different amplitudes are also made to compare the accuracy of the three methods. KeywordsVan del Pol equation, slowly varying parameter, approximate potential method, equivalent nonlinea...
