BACKGROUND AND AIMS In spite of major breakthroughs in the last three decades in the identification of root nitrate uptake transporters in plants and the associated regulation of nitrate transport activities, a simplified and operational modelling approach for nitrate uptake is still lacking. This is due mainly to the difficulty in linking the various regulations of nitrate transport that act a...

RATIONALE Because of the threat of bombings using improvised explosives containing ammonium nitrate (AN), law enforcement and intelligence communities have been interested in stable isotope techniques for tracking and discriminating AN sources. Separate analysis of the AN component ions ammonium and nitrate would add discriminatory power to these techniques. METHODS Ammonium ions in dissolved...

In the title compound, [Gd(NO(3))(3)(C(10)H(12)N(2)O)(2)]·2C(2)H(5)OH, the Gd(III) ion and one nitrate anion are located on a twofold rotation axis. The Gd(III) ion is ten-coordinated by two N and two O atoms from two bidentate 3-(N,N-dimethyl-amino)-1-(2-pyrid-yl)prop-2-en-1-one) ligands and six O atoms from three nitrate anions in a distorted bicapped square-anti-prismatic geometry. In the cr...

Near real time process monitoring of the uranium content in an aqueous fuel recycling plant is a desired component of an advanced safeguards suite; Ultraviolet– Visible spectroscopy and Time Resolved Laser induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy can contribute to this technology gap. This work presents the observation of the spectroscopic parameters (molar absorptivities, fluorescent response) of the...

In the molecular structure of the title compound, [NaNi(C18H18N2O4)(NO3)(CH3OH)], the Ni(2+) ion has a slightly distorted square-planar coordination environment defined by two N and two O atoms which belong to a Schiff base ligand, viz. 6,6'-dimeth-oxy-2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(nitrilo-methanylyl-idene)]diphenolate. Seven O atoms form the coordination environment of the Na(+) ion: four from the ...

The properties of the bactericidal action of silver zeolite as affected by inorganic salts and ion chelators were similar to those of silver nitrate. The results suggest that the contact of the bacterial cell with silver zeolite, the consequent transfer of silver ion to the cell, and the generation of reactive oxygen species in the cell are involved in the bactericidal activity of silver zeolite.

Inorganic capillary electrophoresis (ICE) is a new separations technology which melds the technique of classical electrophoresis with the separations approach of ion chromatography. Matrices which have been difficult to deal with using ion chromatography have proven amenable to analysis by ICE. The simultaneous analysis of weak acid anions, oxalate and citrate and inorganic anions, chloride, su...

In the title complex, [CuEr(C(19)H(20)N(2)O(4))(NO(3))(3)]·CH(3)COCH(3), the Cu(II) ion is coordinated in a square-planar environment by two O atoms and two N atoms of a Schiff base ligand. The Er(III) ion is bis-chelated by three nitrate ligands and coordinated by four O atoms of the Schiff base ligand in a slightly distorted bicapped square-anti-prismatic environment.
