We report the complete genome sequence of Herbaspirillum hiltneri N3 (DSM 17495), a member of the genus Herbaspirillum of the Betaproteobacteria. The genome is contained in a single chromosome, and analysis revealed that N3 lacks the whole nitrogen fixation (nif) gene cluster, confirming its inability to fix nitrogen.

We report the formation of a highly unusual fused, tricyclic purine derivative via N3 alkylation of 9-propargyladenine, upon activation of the acetylenic triple bond by Ag(I) ions. The participation of silver ions in this process might offer newer design paradigms for minor groove N3 DNA alkylation, antibacterial and anticancer agents.

Laser action at 530 nm using H3 centers in diamond was observed with an efficiency of 13.5% at room temperature. Optical double-resonance experiments on N3 centers provided direct evidence for a (2)A metastable level. Its presence results in rapid decay of the excited (2)E state and low quantum efficiency as well as significant excited-state absorption in the N3 luminescence region.

N-nitroso compounds represent a common type of environmental and endogenous DNA-damaging agents. After metabolic activation, many N-nitroso compounds are converted into a diazoacetate intermediate that can react with nucleobases to give carboxymethylated DNA adducts such as N3-carboxymethylthymidine (N3-CMdT) and O(4)-carboxymethylthymidine (O(4)-CMdT). In this study, we constructed non-replica...

Human neutrophil peptide-1 (HNP-1) is an important defense molecule in neutrophils and Sertoli cells and plays an important role in the blood-testis barrier. In this study, we investigated the behavior of Sertoli cells transfected with the HNP-1 gene and compared the ability of Sertoli cells and fibroblast cells to resist transfection. Total RNA was isolated from human blood. The DNA coding seq...

PURPOSE To evaluate the therapeutic results and histopathological effects of treatment with thermochemoradiation therapy using superselective intra-arterial infusion via the superficial temporal and occipital arteries for N3 cervical lymph node metastases of advanced oral cancer. METHODS AND MATERIALS Between April 2005 and September 2010, 9 patients with N3 cervical lymph node metastases of ...

BACKGROUND Infant temperament predicts a range of developmental and behavioral outcomes throughout childhood. Both maternal fatty acid intake and psychosocial stress exposures during pregnancy may influence infant temperament. Furthermore, maternal race may modify prenatal diet and stress effects. The goals of this study are to examine the joint effects of prenatal diet and stress and the modif...

Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most common monogenic cause of stroke and vascular dementia. Disease-causing mutations invariably affect cysteine residues within epidermal growth factor-like repeat domains in the extracellular domain of the NOTCH3 receptor (N3(ECD)). The biochemical and histopathological hallmark of CAD...

changes in the fatty acid content, during frozen storage at -24°c of caspian kutum (rutilus frisii kutum), golden grey mullet (liza aurata), common carp (caprinus carpio), pike perch (sander lucioperca) and common kilka (clupeonella cultiventris caspia), caught from south caspian sea were studied in the present work. changes in saturated fatty acids (sfas), monounsaturated fatty acids (mufas), ...

Mouse inbred strains B10.O20 and O20 were used to study the genetics of susceptibility to small intestinal cancer. Strain B10.O20 is susceptible to tumors of the small intestine induced by a transplacental treatment with the carcinogen N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea on day 18 of gestation, whereas strain O20 is completely resistant. F1 hybrid mice are also completely resistant, indicating that homozygos...
