In the recent publication “Comparative Analyses of Nonpathogenic, Opportunistic, and Totally Pathogenic Mycobacteria Reveal Genomic and Biochemical Variabilities and Highlight the Survival Attributes of Mycobacterium tuberculosis,” Rahman et al. (1) used bioinformatic methods to examine the evolutionary relatedness and metabolic capacity of mycobacteria of diverse pathogenic potential. A key co...
mai and he also pointed out that heparinised animals were more resistant to digitalis poisoning than control ones. On a small but well controlled series of rabbits Werch (1943) found that when digifolin was given I/V to the rabbits in comparatively large amount, it caused a significant decrease in the coagulation time of blood. In addition there are many other reports which favour the above hyp...

The present study was designed to evaluate the pathological and immunohistochemical findings of Mycobacterium avium intracellulare complex (MAC) lung infection. A retrospective study was performed in five cases with positive cultures for MAC in whom lung resections were performed between January 1989 and December 1996. A determination of whether or not MAC caused pulmonary disease was made usin...
BACKGROUND Disseminated mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) occurs mainly in immunocompromised hosts, which is associated with abnormal cellular immunity. CASE PRESENTATION A 26-year-old pregnant woman presented with fever and general weakness. Miliary lung nodules were noted on chest X-ray. Under the impression of miliary tuberculosis, anti-tuberculosis medication was administered. However, th...
We report the case of a 3-year-old girl with lymphadenopathy caused by the recently described species Mycobacterium colombiense. M. colombiense is a nonpigmented slow grower that is included in the Mycobacterium avium complex. Partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene was used for species identification.
We report the draft genome sequence of Mycobacterium vulneris DSM 45247(T) strain, an emerging, opportunistic pathogen of the Mycobacterium avium complex. The genome described here is composed of 6,981,439 bp (with a G+C content of 67.14%) and has 6,653 protein-coding genes and 84 predicted RNA genes.
