In diagnosing peripheral nerve disorders, the involved nerves can usually be determined based on clinical history and neurological findings with the aid of electrophysiological examinations. Despite the principle, we often encounter diagnostic challenges. In this chapter, we describe the clinical utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the evaluation of peripheral nerve disorders. MRI c...

RESULTS: 152 patients with 159 orbital floor fractures were included. 122 (80.3%) patients were male, and the mean age was 12.2 years. Twelve patients (7.9%) sustained orbital floor fractures with tissue entrapment. At presentation extraocular movement (EOM) restriction, diplopia, nausea, and vomiting were all associated with tissue entrapment (P<0.001). Amongst patients with trapdoor fractures...

This study tested whether feelings of defeat and entrapment mediated the effects of negative appraisals upon suicidal ideation and behavior. A sample of 93 university students who reported some degree of suicidal ideation completed questionnaires of negative appraisals of social-support and problem-solving, defeat, entrapment, hopelessness and suicidality. The results supported a model whereby ...

Although making a decision for the need for surgical correction of diplopia in blow-out fracture is difficult, it is logical to assume that an effective approach for management of diplopia in this type of injury should consider more than one factor. These factors include a preoperative BSV score and of the level of tissue herniation. Recently, the authors published two papers based on 10 year r...

Anomalous muscular variants of pectoralis major have been reported on several occasions in the medical literature. Among them, chondroepitrochlearis is one of the rarest. Therefore, this study aims to provide a comprehensive description of its anatomy and subsequent clinical significance, along with its phylogenetic importance in pectoral muscle evolution with regard to primate posture. The aut...

Painful neuromas form on cutaneous nerves as a result of trauma, pressure, stretch or entrapment. Since the earliest descriptions of neuromas, proposed treatments have been met with poor results and controversy. The myriad of treatments described include: simple division of an affected nerve, implantation into muscle or bone, silicon sleeves and caps, repeated injection of steroids, end-to-side...

Although stent entrapment is a rare event during percutaneous coronary intervention, stent entrapment can cause stent breakage or loss, which results in fatal complications such as stent embolism or acute myocardial infarction. We report one case of stent entrapment that was successfully treated by a snare via a contralateral transfemoral approach.
