the relationship between topography, soil factors, and distribution of ecological vegetation groups in the nodoushan arid rangelands of yazd province (iran) was investigated. the present species were recorded in each vegetation group using a randomized-systematic sampling method. plant cover and density were estimated quantitatively using the transect and quadrate methods, and the two-way indic...

in this study multivariate statistical analysis are used to characterize relationships between hydrochemical properties ofthermal and non-thermal springs. four factors for thermal waters and two for non-thermal springs were extracted basedon factor analysis. in thermal springs, the first factor showed high loading on ca, mg, na and k and this factor wasinterpreted as leaching of cations in the ...

Two robust approaches to principal component analysis and factor analysis are presented. The different methods are compared, and properties are discussed. As an application we use a large geochemical data set which was analyzed in detail by univariate (geo-)statistical methods. We explain the advantages of applying robust multivariate methods.

This chapter presents an introduction to robust statistics with applications of a chemometric nature. Following a description of the basic ideas and concepts behind robust statistics, including how robust estimators can be conceived, the chapter builds up to the construction (and use) of robust alternatives for some methods for multivariate analysis frequently used in chemometrics, such as prin...

Guided by gaps in the literature with regard to the study of politicians the aim of the research is to explore cross-cultural differences in political leaders' style. It compares the MLQ (Avolio & Bass, 2004) scores of elected political leaders (N = 140) in Bulgaria and the UK. The statistical exploration of the data relied on multivariate analyses of covariance. The findings of comparisons acr...

The objective of this study was to identify correlates of household food insecurity and poor dietary diversity in rural Cambodia. Trained interviewers administered a survey to 900 households in four rural districts of Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. The Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) and Household Dietary Diversity Score (HDDS) were used to assess household food insecurity and die...

Surveys, by their very nature, result in data structures that are multivariate. While recognizing the value of simple approaches to survey data analysis, the present chapter illustrates the benefits of a more in-depth analysis, for selected population subgroups through the application of multivariate techniques. Software packages are now available that make possible the application of these mor...
