A novel neural-network based technique is described for the remote condition-monitoring of an in-service gas-turbine flowmeter. The method uses a C language implementation of a modified multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural networks, which enables detection of the accumulation of contaminating material on the rotor blades that could lead to changes in meter-factor and loss of calibration.

In this paper, we propose a deep neural network based natural language processing system for semantic textual similarity prediction. We leverage multi-layer bidirectional LSTM to learn sentence representation. After that, we construct matching features followed by Highway Multilayer Perceptron to make predictions. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach can’t get better results on s...

A nonlinear version of independent component analysis is presented. The mapping from sources to observations is modelled by a multi-layer perceptron network and the distributions of sources are modelled by mixtures of Gaussians. The posterior probability of all the unknown parameters is estimated by ensemble learning. In this paper, we present the theory of the method, and in a companion paper ...

Since artificial neural networks (ANNs) can approximate any function, they have been applied in many fields including hydrology. In hydrology, there are important issues such as flood estimation and predicting rainfall-runoff in a certain area. In this presentation, we briefly introduce a popular feed-forward neural network model, so called “multi-layer perceptron (MLP)”, and review its applica...

In this paper we present an adaptive appoach to observe the joint velocity for rigid robot manipulators. This approach is based on the neural network and sliding mode technique. The adopted neural network is of the MLP (Multi Layer Perceptron) type with one hidden layer. The functions of the dynamic model of the robot manipulator are assumed unknown. The neural network parameters are adapted on...

Drought is one of the most destructive natural disasters in human societies that cause irreparable impacts on agriculture, environment, society and economics. So, awareness of occurrence of droughts can be effective in reducing losses. In this study, in order to modeling and forecasting drought severity in a 37 year time period (1971-2007) in 21 meteorological stations, located in the cold semi...

A globally convergent homotopy method is deened that is capable of sequentially producing large numbers of stationary points of the multi-layer perceptron mean-squared error surface. Using this algorithm large subsets of the stationary points of two test problems are found. It is shown empirically that the MLP neural network appears to have an extreme ratio of saddle points compared to local mi...

Advancement in Artificial Intelligence has lead to the developments of various “smart” devices. The task of face Recognition has been actively researched in recent years. Wide usage of biometric information for person identity verification purposes, terrorist acts prevention measures and authentication process simplification in computer systems has raised significant attention to reliability an...

We introduce an algorithm to do backpropagation on a spiking network. Our network is "spiking" in the sense that our neurons accumulate their activation into a potential over time, and only send out a signal (a “spike”) when this potential crosses a threshold and the neuron is reset. Neurons only update their states when receiving signals from other neurons. Total computation of the network thu...
