In this paper we present an innovative application of magnetorheological (MR) fluids to haptic interfaces. These materials consist of a suspension of a micron-sized, magnetizable particles in a synthetic oil. Exposure to an external magnetic field induces in the fluid a change in rheological behaviour turning it into a near-solid in few milliseconds. Just as quickly, the fluid can be returned t...

Field-induced static and dynamic yield stresses are explored for magnetorheological (MR) suspensions in an aging, yield stress matrix fluid composed of an aqueous dispersion of Laponite clay. Using a custom-built magnetorheometry fixture, the MR response is studied for magnetic field strengths up to 1 T and magnetic particle concentrations up to 30 v%. The yield stress of the matrix fluid, whic...

A Mr 35,000 protein with follicle-stimulating hormone release-inhibitory activity was isolated from porcine ovarian follicular fluid by heparin-Sepharose affinity chromatography, gel filtration on Sephacryl S-200, and multiple steps of high-performance liquid chromatography. The isolated molecule is highly enriched in cysteines and is composed of a single polypeptide chain. In addition, it has ...

We report a case of serologically proved West Nile virus encephalitis. Striking bilateral hyperintensities were noted in the basal ganglia and thalami on T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery MR images, similar to previous accounts of the imaging findings in cases of Japanese encephalitis. Recognition of the MR imaging appearance of this entity is important because of the expandin...

We present the case of a 23-year-old woman with cerebrospinal fluid eosinophilia and myelopathy caused by Toxocara canis and describe the clinical and thoracic MR findings. An enhancing thoracic spinal cord lesion which was shown on MR resolved after an interval of 140 days with partial resolution of the patient's symptoms.

A key feature of magnetorheological fluid is its variability rheological properties in which upon exposing this fluid, the viscosity changes accordingly. Hence nature can be implemented various engineering applications. To understand influence a (MR) damper, it essential to study flow behaviour using computational and numerical methods. The main objective work estimate external magnetic field o...

OBJECTIVE This study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of MR imaging in differentiating necrotizing fasciitis from cellulitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Spin-echo T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted spin-echo sequences were performed in 15 patients with clinically suspected necrotizing fasciitis. In two other patients, only unenhanced imaging was performed. Th...

Background and Purpose—The cause of pretruncal (perimesencephalic) nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is not known. MRI of the brain or spine is often performed to exclude any other vascular abnormalities. Its diagnostic value is not known. Methods—We used MR imaging of the brain with routine sequences, gadolinium enhancement, and additional thin T1-weighted axial sections following a triple...

The transient behaviour of magnetorheological (MR) damper is a very important parameter affecting the performance this technology in modern semi-actively controlled suspension systems. Currently, MR limited by dynamics fluid (MRF) itself. significant part MRF response time hydrodynamic which connected with rheology and development velocity profile slit gap. In paper, method for measuring operat...

The failure of MR to clearly detect the second lesion was significant for two reasons. Had this drop metastasis not been discovered, adjuvant radiation therapy may not have been given; and because the lesion was not seen on MR, it is unclear what imaging strategy should be used to follow the patient. We agree with Epstein et al ( 1) that in a patient with a neurologic deficit and a negative or ...
