We consider random walks in strong-mixing random Gibbsian environments in Z, d ≥ 2. Based on regeneration arguments, we will first provide an alternative proof of Rassoul-Agha’s conditional law of large numbers (CLLN) for mixing environment [8]. Then, using coupling techniques, we show that there is at most one nonzero limiting velocity in high dimensions (d ≥ 5).
We investigate various characterizations of the Haagerup property (H) for a second countable locally compact group G, in terms of orthogonal representations of G on Lp(M), the non-commutative Lp-space associated with the von Neumann algebra M. For a semi-finite von Neumann algebra M, we introduce a variant of property (H), namely property HLp(M), defined in terms of orthogonal representations o...
The concept of topological transitivity goes back to G. D. Birkhoff [1]
The CLEO collaboration reported observation of the ‘wrong sign’ decay D → Kπ in 1993. Upgrades have been made to the CLEO detector , including installation of a silicon vertex detector, which provide substantial improvements in sensitivity to D→Kπ. The vertex detector enables the reconstruction of the proper lifetime of the D, and so provides sensitivity to D−D mixing. We will give preliminary ...
We describe an algorithm and chip implementation for separating a mixture of unknown, but independent, temporal signals in static and dynamic environments. The proposed algorithm, which is a simple modi cation of the Herault and Jutten (HJ) algorithm, proved to be robust to parameter variations. Moreover, we present some chip results to quantify the performance of the modi ed algorithm in stati...
Mixed metaphors have been neglected in recent metaphor research. This paper suggests that such neglect is short-sighted. Though mixing is a more complex phenomenon than straight metaphors, the same kinds of reasoning and knowledge structures are required. This paper provides an analysis of both parallel and serial mixed metaphors within the framework of an AI system which is already capable of ...
We show that if r ≥ 3 and α is a faithful Z-Cartan action on a torus T by automorphisms, then any closed subset of (T) which is invariant and topologically transitive under the diagonal Z-action by α is homogeneous, in the sense that it is either the full torus (T), or a finite set of rational points, or a finite disjoint union of parallel translates of some d-dimensional invariant subtorus. A ...
We present a preliminary search for D-D mixing using the decays D → Kππ, additionally presenting Dalitz-plot distributions and a measurement of the branching ratio for this mode. A new tagging technique is used to produce the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed Dalitz plot, which in turn is used to motivate the method used for the D-mixing search. We analyze 230.4 fb of data collected from the BABAR dete...
We study neutrino masses and mixing in Supersymmetric Models without R parity and with generic soft Supersymmetry breaking terms. Neutrinos acquire mass from various sources: tree level neutrino–neutralino mixing, loop effects and non–renormalizable operators. Abelian horizontal symmetries (invoked to explain the smallness and hierarchy in quark parameters) replace R parity in suppressing neutr...
We review models where R–parity is broken, either spontaneously or explicitly. In this last case we consider the situation where R–parity is broken via bilinear terms in the superpotential. We show that although at tree level only one neutrino gets mass, at one–loop level all three neutrinos became massive. We study the conditions under which bimaximal mixing can be achieved and show that the m...
