Organisms can minimize their exposure to risk of death or injury by assessing their environment and modifying their behavior accordingly. There is evidence that the current or recent presence of a predator introduces cues to the environment that organisms may use in risk assessment. However, we know little about whether terrestrial organisms use the remains of victims of predation as one such c...

--Generally, aggregative operations are algebraic, such as the addition or multiplication of received data, or statistical operation, such as a median, a minimum, or a maximum of a data set. It reduces a large amount of transmission is the most practical technique. Although data aggregation could significantly reduce transmission, it is vulnerable to some attacks. Some of the existing schemes d...

A robust nonlinear control law is designed to reject unknown feed composition disturbances with overall stability. Implementation to real columns as well as comparisons with classical control strategies, show the robustness and flexibility improvements of the method. Almtracq-Using singular perturbation techniques on a physical model of distillation column, an aggregated model is proposed for c...

Sequences of contemporary proteins are believed to have evolved through a process that optimized their overall fitness, including their resistance to deleterious aggregation. Biotechnological processing may expose therapeutic proteins to conditions that are much more conducive to aggregation than those encountered in a cellular environment. An important task of protein engineering is to identif...

In this paper we discuss the asymptotic behaviour of random contractions X = RS, where R, with distribution function F , is a positive random variable independent of S ∈ (0, 1). Random contractions appear naturally in insurance and finance. Our principal contribution is the derivation of the tail asymptotics of X assuming that F is in the max-domain of attraction of an extreme value distributio...

In this paper we consider a multicriteria aggregation model where local utility functions of different sorts are aggregated using Sugeno integrals, and which we refer to as Sugeno utility functions. We propose a general approach to study such functions via the notion of pseudoSugeno integral (or, equivalently, pseudo-polynomial function), which naturally generalizes that of Sugeno integral, and...

in the paper we establish some new results depending on thecomparative growth properties of composition of entire functionsusing relative $l^{ast }$-order (relative $l^{ast }$-lowerorder) as compared to their corresponding left and right factorswhere $lequiv lleft( rright) $ is a slowly changing function.

We report studies of ultrahigh-energy cosmic-ray composition via analysis of depth of air shower maximum (X(max)), for air shower events collected by the High-Resolution Fly's Eye (HiRes) observatory. The HiRes data are consistent with a constant elongation rate d/d[log(E)] of 47.9+/-6.0(stat)+/-3.2(syst) g/cm2/decade for energies between 1.6 and 63 EeV, and are consistent with a predom...

This paper describes a package of extensions (externals) for Cycling ‘74’s Max/MSP software to facilitate the exploration of Ambisonic techniques of up to third order. Areas of exploration well suited to the Max/MSP environment and techniques for composition within the Ambisonic domain using the presented externals are described.

Many financial decisions involve a need to satisfy multiple criteria (goals). This situation becomes particularly apparent in problems of investment allocation where we are faced with the problem of selecting from a collection of alternative investment packages one that meets our subjective goals such as growth, security and a reasonable return on investment. Another closely related problem, on...
