in this article we introduce the concept of $z^circ$-filter on a topological space $x$. we study and investigate the behavior of $z^circ$-filters and compare them with corresponding ideals, namely, $z^circ$-ideals of $c(x)$, the ring of real-valued continuous functions on a completely regular hausdorff space $x$. it is observed that $x$ is a compact space if and only if every $z^circ$-filter ...
We deal with a conjectured dichotomy for compact Hausdorff spaces: each such space contains a non-trivial converging ω-sequence or a non-trivial converging ω1-sequence. We establish that this dichotomy holds in a variety of models; these include the Cohen models, the random real models and any model obtained from a model of CH by an iteration of property K posets. In fact in these models every ...
A scadic space is a Hausdorff continuous image of a product of compact scattered spaces. We complete a theorem begun by G. Chertanov that will establish that for each scadic space X, χ(X) = w(X). A ξ-adic space is a Hausdorff continuous image of a product of compact ordinal spaces. We introduce an either-or chain condition called Property R′ λ which we show is satisfied by all ξ-adic spaces. Wh...
Monotonically metacompact spaces were recently introduced as an extension of the concept of monotonically compact spaces. In this note we answer a question of Popvassilev, and Bennett, Hart, and Lutzer, by showing that every compact, Hausdorff, monotonically (countably) metacompact space is metrizable. We also show that certain countable spaces fail to be monotonically (countably) metacompact.
This paper introduces a generalization of Pontryagin duality for locally compact Hausdorff abelian groups to locally compact Hausdorff abelian group bundles. First recall that a group bundle is just a groupoid where the range and source maps coincide. An abelian group bundle is a bundle where each fibre is an abelian group. When working with a group bundle G we will use X to denote the unit spa...
In this note, we consider the concentration function problem for a continuous action of a locally compact group $G$ on a locally compact Hausdorff space $X$. We prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the concentration functions of a spread-out irreducible probability measure $mu$ on $G$ to converge to zero.
This document is a summary of basic facts about the “standard” category of compactly generated spaces introduced by McCord [McC69] (often referred to in the literature as “compactly generated weak Hausdorff spaces”, or “weak Hausdorff k-spaces”). The main references I’ve used for this material are Gaunce Lewis’s thesis [Lew, App. A], and Neil Strickland’s note [Str09] (especially for material a...
This paper is a continuation of [8] and in it some applications of the methods and results of [8] and of [28, 7, 24, 9, 10, 11] are given. In particular, a slight generalization of the Stone’s results [28] concerning the extension of his Duality Theorem to the category of locally compact zerodimensional Hausdorff spaces is obtained; a completion theorem for local contact Boolean algebras is pro...
