Three liquid media that differ slightly in composition but not in the method of preparation were developed for the propagation of Treponema hyodysenteriae and Treponema innocens. The three media are unique in that all components are sterilized by autoclaving before use. These media supported better growth of T. hyodysenteriae than did previously used liquid media.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro hemolytic activities of 107 Candida strains isolated from different clinical samples in liquid medium, and to examine the impact of glucose on this activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 107 Candida isolates representing seven species (C. albicans, n=28; C. glabrata, n=23; C. tropicalis, n=17; C. parapsilosis, n=16; C. kefyr, n=...

The development of short-to-medium-range order in atomic arrangements has generally been observed in noncrystalline solid systems such as metallic glasses. Whether such medium-range order (MRO) can exist in materials at well above their melting or glass-transition temperature has been a long-standing important scientific issue. Here, using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, we show that ...

T he electronics industry employs millions of workers throughout the world and plays a significant role in the structure of the world’s economy. Many multinational electronics industries retain their capital intensive operations in home countries, but locate their labour intensive operations in newly industrialising countries, because of the lower cost of labour and attractive financial and inf...

OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of not keeping the collecting device in liquid-based cytology. Loss of material was computed from a pair of subsamples from the same cervical scrape. One subsample was obtained by rinsing the collecting device in one vial and the other by discarding it in another vial. Homogeneity of endocervical component was assessed between subsamples. MATERIALS AND METHOD...

background: cellulytic enzymes including carboxymethyl cellulases play the key role in hydrolysis of cellulose, a huge organic carbon reservoir on earth, into monomeric sugars and their eventual conversion into valuable chemicals and energy sources. objectives: in this study, we described the identification of a basidiomycete isolate ndvn01 and optimization of culture conditions and medium comp...

Experiments were conducted in a liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed with different viscous liquids and particles to study the hydrodynamics, average solid hold up and solid circulation rate. The effects of operating parameters, i.e., primary liquid flow rate in the riser, auxiliary liquid flow rate, total liquid flow rate and viscosity of the liquid were studied for solids of different densi...

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: To overcome the problems caused by animal feed shortages, efforts are made to increase the availability of nutrients and their digestibility, such as improving the nutritional value of forage plants through biological processing. Schizophyllum commune is an edible fungus of the basidiomycete’s family that has been used for biological processing of ...

Spreading of liquids and soft solids on a rigid surface in a surrounding liquid medium is investigated by utilizing the lateral sensitivity of the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). While the QCM has been used extensively to study systems with spatial variations in the direction normal to the crystal's electrodes, few studies have exploited the QCM's ability to sense changes in loading in the p...
