Patellar instability has been shown to be associated with different major factors. However, studies have demonstrated that soft tissue reconstructions are adequate enough to reestablish patellar constraint. In recent years, the medial patellofemoral ligament has been recognized as the primary passive restraint for lateral translation of the patella. Their reconstruction has gain popularity as t...

The authors report a case of a 47-year-old professional driver with an acute, simultaneous tear of patellar tendon and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The patient was treated in two stages. Acute patellar tendon repair and delayed (6-month postinjury) ACL reconstruction was performed. The authors discuss the possible mechanism of injury and the rationality of the two-stage surgical treatment.

Increased stability has been reported with both autografts and allografts for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. However, meta-analysis has shown significantly lower overall knee stability rates and more than double the abnormal stability rate with allografts. Some issues surrounding allograft sterilization (ie, risk of disease transmission) are unresolved, and cost is also a conc...

The purpose of this update is to report on a variety of topics related to trapezium implants that have been investigated during the past three years. The keyword trapezium implant was utilized to query the PubMed database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. From the resulting list, papers published from the beginning of January 2012 through the beginning of April 2015 were reviewed. The t...

In order to clarify the role of cytokines in the remodelling of the grafted tendon for ligament reconstruction we compared the responses to interleukin (IL)-1beta, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB and transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta1 of extrinsic fibroblasts infiltrating the frozen-thawed patellar tendon in rats with that of the normal tendon fibroblasts, in regard to the gene exp...

BACKGROUND Various surgical options used in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the basal joint of the thumb that are refractory to non-surgical management. This study was conducted to provide short term functional outcomes using the mentioned technique in treating basal joint arthritis of the thumb. METHODS We treated basal joint arthritis of the thumb by trapeziumectomy and volar oblique lig...

The use of autografts versus allografts for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is controversial. The current popular options for ACL reconstruction are patellar tendon or hamstring autografts, yet advances in allograft technologies have made allogeneic grafts a favorable option for repair tissue. Despite this, the mismatched biomechanical properties and risk of osteoarthritis resul...

In order to determine whether an allogeneic tendon could be used to replace an extra-articular ligament, the right medial collateral ligament from 11 adult dogs was replaced with a fresh-frozen allogeneic patellar tendon. At each of 3, 6, 15, 30 and 52 weeks postoperatively, one dog was killed for micro-angiographical and histological studies; at 52 weeks the remaining six dogs were killed for ...

INTRODUCTION The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common in the knee. Tendons can be used as alternative grafts for ACL repair, with tendon "ligamentization" often reported in literature. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the morphological and histological changes occurring in a semitendinosus tendon (ST) during ACL reconstruction in growing rabbits. MATERIAL...
