This paper presents experiences from the implementation of parallel algorithms for the all-pairs shortest path problem. A brief survey of the problem is given and efficient techniques for exploiting the memory hierarchy of parallel computers are described. Comparing the algorithms at a practical level, the importance of issues such as synchronisation and data locality is established.
Evaluating the merits of the wheat seed is an important significance for wheat breeding. We studied analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for seeds grading by digital image processing techniques in the paper. Firstly, preprocess the collected wheat seed images; extract some parameters, such as area, plumpness, rectangular, and elongation of the seed, and then build the level model. Experiments showe...
Speedups of coupled processor-FPGA systems over traditional microprocessor systems are limited by the cost of hardware reconfiguration. In this paper we compare several new configuration caching algorithms that reduce the latency of reconfiguration. We also present a cache replacement strategy for a 3-level hierarchy. Using the techniques we present, total latency for loading the configurations...
We propose two stages for data warehouse requirements engineering (i) an ‘early information’ part where the information relevant to decision making is discovered, and (ii) a ‘late’ part where this information is structured as facts and dimensions. Our focus is on the former. Early information data warehouse requirements engineering starts with targets defined as pairs of the form where A...
We present a new malware detection method that takes advantage of the processing power now available on disk drives. Our method uses the disk processor to monitor disk requests and identifies malicious programs based on characteristic properties of the disk requests they make. Disk-level behavioral detection offers several advantages over traditional approaches since the disk processor can perf...
Perceptual learning can be defined as practice-induced improvement in the ability to perform specific perceptual tasks. We previously proposed the Reverse Hierarchy Theory as a unifying concept that links behavioral findings of visual learning with physiological and anatomical data. Essentially, it asserts that learning is a top-down guided process, which begins at high-level areas of the visua...
