The aim of this study was to model the growth, in a model system, of toxigenic strains of Bacillus cereus as a function of temperature, pH and water activity. Optical density (OD) values were transformed into numbers of colony-forming units (CFU) by the use of a 'calibrating' relation. The growth curves were then fitted to the Gompertz function which allowed the estimation of the lag-time (lamb...

In this paper, we define a new realizability semantics for the simply typed λμ-calculus. We show that if a term is typable, then it inhabits the interpretation of its type. We also prove a completeness result of our realizability semantics using a particular term model. This paper corrects some errors in [21] by the first author and Saber.

Newell-Littlewood coefficients $n_{\mu,\nu}^{\lambda}$ are the multiplicities occurring in decomposition of products universal characters orthogonal and symplectic groups. They may also be expressed, or even defined directly terms Littlewood-Richardson coefficients, $c_{\mu,\nu}^{\lambda}$. Both sets have stretched forms $c_{t\mu,t\nu}^{t\lambda}$ $n_{t\mu,t\nu}^{t\lambda}$, where $t\kappa$ is ...

Introduction: Waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHTR) are used to screen the central obesity and identify metabolic syndrome. These parameters are dependent on sex, age and ethnicity, thus requiring specific values in each country. The study aims to develop age and gender specific WC and WHTR percentile curves for Thai youth. Method: This is a cross-sectional study based on th...

Background. Skinfold thickness (SFT) measurements are a reliable and feasible method for assessing body fat in children but their use and interpretation is hindered by the scarcity of reference values in representative populations of children. The objective of the present study was to develop age- and sex-specific percentile curves for five SFT measures (biceps, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac...

Immunoglobulin gene rearrangement during mammalian B cell development generally follows an ordered progression, beginning with heavy (H) chain genes and proceeding through kappa and lambda light (L) chain genes. To determine whether the predicted kappa-->lambda hierarchy was occurring in vitro, we generated Epstein-Barr virus-transformed cell lines from cultures undergoing human pre-B cell diff...

In this paper. (1) We determine the complex-valued solutions of the following variant of Van Vleck's functional equation $$int_{S}f(sigma(y)xt)dmu(t)-int_{S}f(xyt)dmu(t) = 2f(x)f(y), ;x,yin S,$$ where $S$ is a semigroup, $sigma$ is an involutive morphism of $S$, and $mu$ is a complex measure that is linear combinations of Dirac measures $(delta_{z_{i}})_{iin I}$, such that for all $iin I$, $z_{...

sigma Ligands modulate opioid actions in vivo, with agonists diminishing morphine analgesia and antagonists enhancing the response. Using human BE(2)-C neuroblastoma cells that natively express opioid receptors and human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells transfected with a cloned mu opioid receptor, we now demonstrate a similar modulation of opioid function, as assessed by guanosine 5'-O-(3-[(35)S]t...

The effect of periodic surface roughness on the behavior of confined soft sphere fluids is investigated using grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations. Rough pores are constructed by taking the prototypical slit-shaped pore and introducing unidirectional sinusoidal undulations on one wall. For the above geometry our study reveals that the solvation force response can be phase shifted in a contro...

We study the time evolution of spherical, excited---with $n$ radial nodes---scalar boson stars in general relativity minimally coupled to a complex massive scalar field with quartic self-interactions. report that these stars, up $n=10$, can be made dynamically stable, timescales $t\ensuremath{\sim}\frac{1{0}^{4}}{c\ensuremath{\mu}}$, where $\ensuremath{\mu}$ is inverse Compton wavelength partic...
