decreased cardiomyocyte SR-mitochondrial contact length by 30% and reduced the content of SR-associated proteins in mitochondria-associated membranes. This was associated with decreased mitochondrial Ca uptake (despite unchanged mitochondrial membrane potential) but increased steady-state and caffeine-induced SR Ca release. Accordingly, Ca -induced stimulation of Krebs cycle dehydrogenases duri...

Procyclic forms of Trypanosoma brucei isolated from the midguts of infected tsetse flies, or freshly transformed from a strain that is close to field isolates, do not use a complete Krebs cycle. Furthermore, short stumpy bloodstream forms produce acetate and are apparently metabolically preadapted to adequate functioning in the tsetse fly.

Previous papers from this laboratory (King and Cheldelin, 1952, 1952a, 1954; Hauge et al., 1955, 1955a) have reported on the oxidation of carbohydrates in Acetobacter suboxydans. Neither resting nor disintegrated cells can oxidize acetate or other intermediates of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. These findings have recently been confirmed in another laboratory (Rao and Gunsalus, 1955). From the c...

Horecker (1) has demonstrated the occurrence of a cyclic mechanism in yeast and animal tissues which can account for the oxidation of carbohydrate to carbon dioxide and water without participation of triosephosphate dehydrogenase or the enzymes of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. The term “pentose cycle” has been suggested (2) for this series of reactions previously called the “shunt” or “oxidativ...

Fumarate hydratase (FH)-deficient kidney cancer undergoes metabolic remodeling, with changes in mitochondrial respiration, glucose, and glutamine metabolism. These changes represent multiple biochemical adaptations in glucose and fatty acid metabolism that supports malignant proliferation. However, the metabolic linkages between altered mitochondrial function, nucleotide biosynthesis and NADPH ...
