BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Upper limb motor impairment poststroke is commonly evaluated using clinical outcome measures such as the Fugl-Meyer Assessment. However, most clinical measures provide little information about motor patterns and compensations (eg, trunk displacement) used for task performance. Such information is obtained using movement quality kinematic variables (joint ranges, trunk dis...

Hydrologic modeling of semi-arid watersheds is imperative for the development of appropriate water and soil conservation plans. In the current study, the efficiency of Kinematic Runoff and Erosion model-version 2 (K2) model was used to evaluate water discharge and sediment load simulation of Bar watershed, located in the north-eastern part of Iran. The K2 model relies on the kinematic wave appr...

Joint kinematic behaviour, i.e., joint rotation and axial translation, can partially help pipelines to accommodate abrupt ground movements, cause leaking if service limit is exceeded, even without any structural failure. Kinematic behaviour of bell-spigot jointed ductile iron (DI) pipes its influence on sealing capacity under transverse movements are investigated in this study. Firstly, a beam-...

this paper describes a simple, physically-based conceptual model utilizing watershed drainage characteristics for rainfall-runoff simulation. this conceptual physiographic model is essentially based on the work of najafi (2003), which has led to a model compris-ing the main tributary subwatersheds and a single main channel subwatershed. the ki-nematic wave (kw) theory is used to describe flow o...

kinematic synthesis of a trailing six-member mechanism has been carried out to achieve five precision points of an automotive steering mechanism. the inner wheel can be rotated up to forty five degrees with fair accuracy. results show that the divergent end behavior of ackermann steering mechanism has been overcome by the present mechanism. the work is similar to earlier work by the present aut...

purpose this study was performed to introduce and evaluate the potential of kinematic magnetic resonance imaging (kmri) using a high-field open-magnet magnetic resonance (mr) system. methods we attempted to perform kmri of healthy volunteers’ lumbar spine and knee in the lateral position and ankle in the supine position utilizing the superconducting, horizontally opened, 1.2 t mr system (oasis,...

Temporal-spatial, kinematic variability, and dynamic stability measures collected during perturbation-based assessment paradigms are often used to identify dysfunction associated with gait instability. However, it remains unclear which measures are most reliable for detecting and tracking responses to perturbations. This study systematically determined the between-session reliability and minimu...

This study explores how identical final CV syllables in C1VC3V C2VC3V word pairs affect speech error patterns. Recent kinematic studies have shown that speakers frequently added non-intended movements to intended articulatory movements during the first consonants of C1VC3 C2VC3 syllables or reduce the range of the intended movements [1, 2, 3]. This effect was especially strong in syllables that...

The aim of this paper is to give a different method from the classic ones for the synthesis of the four-bar guiding mechanism. The method consists of the decomposition of the mechanism into small parts, simple kinematic chains, which are synthesized separately and then we put together the results, obtaining the synthesis of the whole mechanism.
