A new ruthenium complex catalyzes the amination of primary and secondary alcohols and the regioselective mono- and sequential diamination of diols via the borrowing hydrogen pathway. Several variations on new intra- and intermolecular cyclizations of aminoalcohols, diols and diamines lead to heterocyclic ring systems.

In the title organic-inorganic hybrid salt, (C(11)H(20)N(9))[CdCl(5)]·H(2)O, the crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the organic cation, the complex inorganic anion and the uncoordinated water molecule, forming a three-dimensional network.

Intermolecular [2+2+2] cycloaddition reaction employing an air-stable ruthenium perchloro-cyclobutenonyl complex as a catalyst is reported. A series of internal alkynes were incorporated with dimethyl acetylene-dicarboxylate in a ratio of 1:2 to give various substituted benzenes in high yield and high chemoselectivity.
