Local distortion inference is proposed as an alternative to assuming a spatially uniform error for image compression applications requiring careful error analysis. This paper presents an algorithm for inferring estimates of the &norm distortion (root-mean-square or RMS error) for the Embedded Zerotree Wavelet (EZW) algorithm while maintaining its good rate-distortion performance. A small amount...

This paper presents a Rate-Distortion analysis for a simple horizon edge image model. A quadtree with anisotropy and rotation is performed on this kind of image, giving a toy model for a non-linear adaptive coding technique, and its Rate-Distortion behavior is studied. The effect of refining the quadtree decomposition is also analyzed.

Radial distortion in an image is a geometric distortion that causes a non-linear variation in resolution across the image, with a higher spatial resolution in the central areas of the image, and lower resolution in the peripheral areas of the image. This is particularly evident in fish-eye cameras, with very wide fields-of-view. Equidistant fish-eye cameras are designed such that the distance b...

We propose a novel scheme to embed an invisible signature into an image to check image integrity and measure its distortion. The technique is based on the pseudo noise sequences and visual masking eeects. The values of an image are modiied by a pseudo noise signature which is shaped by the perceptual thresholds from masking eeects. The method is robust and can gauge errors accurately up to half...

We present the idea of a polycamera which is defined as a tightly packed camera cluster. The cluster is arranged so as to minimize the overlap between adjecent views. The objective of such clusters is to be able to image a very large field of view without loss of resolution. Since these clusters do not have a single viewpoint, analysis is provided on the effects of such non-singularities. We al...

The techniques of K-means algorithm and Gaussian Markov random field model are integrated to provide a Gaussian Markov random field model GMRFM feature which can describe the texture information of different pixel colors in an image. Based on this feature, an image retrieval method is also provided to seek the database images most similar to a given query image. In this paper, a genetic-based p...
