The injection of a seed in a free-electron laser (FEL) amplifier reduces the saturation length and improves the longitudinal coherence. A cascaded FEL, operating in the high-gain harmonic-generation regime, allows us to extend the beneficial effects of the seed to shorter wavelengths. We report on the first operation of a high-gain harmonic-generation free-electron laser, seeded with harmonics ...
We report the first experimental demonstration of the echo-enabled harmonic generation technique, which holds great promise for generation of high-power, fully coherent short-wavelength radiation. In this experiment, coherent radiation at the 3rd and 4th harmonics of the second seed laser is generated from the so-called beam echo effect. The experiment confirms the physics behind this technique...
In certain conditions, when tho human eye is irradiated by pulsed IR laser light, the observer sees the light as yellow or green. This could be due to second harmonic generation by the cornea, the lens, the retina, or two-photon absorption by the photopigments. It is shown that the most likely cause of this phenomenon is second harmonic generation at the cornea.
Simultaneous optical parametric oscillation and intracavity second-harmonic generation based on a hexagonally poled lithium tantalate is reported. Both the optical parametric oscillation and the cascaded noncollinear second-order harmonic generation processes reach a high efficiency. A variety of possible self-doubling optical parametric oscillation processes indicate this hexagonally poled lit...
Different transformer models have been developed in the past for steady state and transient analysis of power systems. Some of these models have nonlinear components to take into account the magnetic core saturation characteristics so that harmonic generation can be simulated. Case studies based on these models are presented to demonstrate the harmonic generation behaviors of transformers under...
Nonlinear optical microscopy with sub-30 fs pulses from an Yb-fiber laser, approximately three times shorter than typical fiber laser pulses, leads to an order of magnitude brighter third harmonic generation imaging. Multiphoton fluorescence, second and third harmonic generation modalities are compared on stained microspheres and unstained biological tissues.
The process of type II second-harmonic generation has been investigated theoretically. It is found that, unlike in the process of type I second-harmonic generation, phase matching is not necessary for a significant shift of the pump wave phase to be produced. The simple inequality of the intensities of interacting waves suffices for this effect to occur.
The second-harmonic generation of a cyanine dye in an LB film was investigated by varying the incident angle of the excitation laser. There was a clear dependence on the incident angle, which was simulated by a simple model. Thus, a highly sensitive determination should be carried out at such an angle where the efficiency of the second-harmonic generation shows its maximum.
We report 99% pump depletion in single-pass second-harmonic generation. Quasi-cw pulses at 1550 nm were frequency doubled in an annealed proton-exchanged waveguide formed in periodically poled lithium niobate. Measurements of pump depletion and second-harmonic generation agree with results from numerical integration of the coupled-mode equations that describe the process.
We present the first analysis of harmonic generation data where the full potential of the generalized nonlinear Kramers-Krönig (KK) relations and sum rules is exploited. We consider two published sets of wide spectral range experimental data of third harmonic generation susceptibility on different polymers, the polysilane (frequency
