都市拡大期に、各地で大規模なニュータウン開発が進められた。「ニュータウン開発」においては、近隣住区論に基づき、開発対象域では整合性のある全体計画が立てられたが、NT開発から影響を受け、隣接する農村集落では、人口構造、土地利用や産業構造などの変化が起こっている。本研究では、日本で初めて住宅団地と工業団地を一体的に整備した神戸西神ニュータウン地区と、それに隣接しており、神戸市・明石市中心部にほど近いという立地条件を活かし、昔から都市近郊型農業が積極的に行われている押部谷町、平野町、櫨谷町、伊川谷町の一部の23集落を分析対象として選定した。NT開発前（1970年）から現時点（2020年）まで、集落ごとの総人口・老年人口・農業従事者数の推移とNTとの位置関係に着目し、対象地における諸集落の居住動向の変化を解明することを目的とする。
