A discussion is given of the uncertainty principle in view of the introduction of a Gravitational Planck Constant. The need for such a gravitational constant is shown first. A reduced electromagnetic Planck constant and the analogous reduced gravitational Planck constant are defined as h/e and H/m respectively. An attempt is made to reconcile the quantum uncertainty concepts with a deterministi...

The effect of introducing a fifth large-scale space-time dimension to the equations of orbital dynamics was analysed in an earlier paper by the authors. The results showed good agreement with the observed flat rotation curves of galaxies. This analysis did not require the modification of Newtonian dynamics, but rather only their restatement in a five dimensional framework. The same analysis der...

This paper is motivated by the recent possibility to find an inexpensive launching vehicle for the LARES satellite, however at an altitude much lower than originally planned for the LAGEOS III/LARES satellite. We present here a preliminary error analysis corresponding to a lower, quasi-polar, orbit, in particular we analyze the effect on the LARES node of the Earth’s static gravitational field,...

Quantum anomalies give rise to new transport phenomena. In particular, a magnetic field can induce an anomalous current via the chiral magnetic effect and a vortex in the relativistic fluid can also induce a current via the chiral vortical effect. The related transport coefficients can be calculated via Kubo formulas. We evaluate the Kubo formula for the anomalous vortical conductivity at weak ...

Parametric instabilities have long been studied as a potentially limiting effect in high-power interferometric gravitational wave detectors. Until now, however, these instabilities have never been observed in a kilometer-scale interferometer. In this Letter, we describe the first observation of parametric instability in a gravitational wave detector, and the means by which it has been removed a...

Gravitational Thomas Precession ( GTP ) is the name given to Thomas Precession when the acceleration is caused by a gravitational force field. The GTP gives a negative contribution of 7 · 163 arcsec/century for the anomalous perihelion advance of Mercury’s orbit. This effect seems to be of some concern for the General Relativity. A common misconception about laser interferometric detectors of gravitational waves purports that, because the wavelength of laser light and the length of an interferometer’s arm are both stretched by a gravitational wave, no effect should be visible, invoking an analogy with cosmological redshift in an expanding universe. The issue is clarified with the help of a direct calculation.

We present a pedagogical derivation of the SachsWolfe effect, specifically the factor 3 relating the temperature fluctuations to gravitational potentials. The result arises from a cancellation between gravitational redshifts and intrinsic temperature fluctuations which can be derived from a coordinate transformation of the background.

The equilibrium surface of a large body of water is a gravitational equipotential. However, that does not imply that in a local region of increased gravitational field g the height h of the water surface will be lower to keep the potential gh constant, in contrast to a recent claim to that effect.
