This paper discusses the use of genetic programming (GP) and genetic algorithms (GA) to evolve solutions to a problem in robot control. GP is seen as an intuitive evolutionary method while GAs require an extra layer of human intervention. The infrastructures for the different evolutionary approaches are compared.
Background A public health intervention program with active involvement of local related stakeholders was piloted in the Bien Hoa dioxin hotspot (2007-2009), and then expanded to the Da Nang dioxin hotspot in Vietnam (2009-2011). It aimed to reduce the risk of dioxin exposure through foods for local residents. This article presents the results of the intervention in Da Nang. Methodology To asse...
Background: Due to the importance of sleep in brain development of infants, this study was designed to compare the effects of environmental and behavioral Interventions on sleep cycle of preterm infants in NICU. Methods: In this prospective crossover clinical trial, 40 preterm infants with fetal age of 32 to 36 weeks hospitalized in NICU were selected. Infants...
Reproductive genetic technologies (RGTs) allow parents to decide whether their future children will have or lack certain genetic predispositions. A popular model that has been proposed for regulating access to RGTs is the 'genetic supermarket'. In the genetic supermarket, parents are free to make decisions about which genes to select for their children with little state interference. One possib...
Hypothyroidism is the most common endocrine disorder of canines, and up to 80% of cases result from autoimmune (lymphocytic) thyroiditis. The heritable nature of this disorder poses significant genetic implications for breeding stock. Thus, accurate diagnosis of the early compensatory stages of canine autoimmune thyroiditis leading up to hypothyroidism affords important genetic and clinical opt...
Whilst the NHS provides genetic tests to detect rare monogenic disorders, such tests are strictly regulated and genetic counselling is provided to help people decide whether to take the tests and to help them interpret the results. The conditions that are screened for must fit a number of criteria including that the condition must be serious, and effective treatment or intervention must be avai...
INTRODUCTION Unsystematic screening for prostate cancer (PCa) is common, causing a high number of false-positive results. Valid instruments for assessment of individual risk of PCa have been called for. A DNA-based genetic test has been tested retrospectively. The clinical use of this test needs further investigation. The primary objective is to evaluate the impact on the use of prostate-specif...

BACKGROUND Within Europe many guidelines exist regarding the genetic testing of minors. Predictive and presymptomatic genetic testing of minors is recommended for disorders for which medical intervention/preventive measures exist, and for which early detection improves future medical health. AIM This study, which is part of the larger 5th EU-framework "genetic education" (GenEd) study, aimed ...
background: raising awareness of mothers has an important role to preventing neonatal severe hyperbilirubinemia. we aimed to investigate the role of educational intervention on the knowledge and practice of the mothers with icteric newborns. materials and methods: this study was interventional study with interventional and control group. study population consisted of 384 consecutive parents of ...
