In this paper, the problem of calculating the stress intensity factor (SIF) for an orthotropic thick-walled cylinder with a small radial crack subject to internal pressure is considered. The crack is assumed to be an edge crack on the external radius of the cylinder. The stress intensity factor is calculated by superposition of an uncracked cylinder with uniform stress distribution and a cylind...

Safety analysis has been done for the torsion of a functionally graded thick-walled  circular cylinder under internal and external pressure subjected to thermal loading. In order to determine stresses the concept of Seth’s transition theory based on generalized principal strain measure has been used. This theory simplifies the set of mechanical equations by mentioning the order of the measure of...

In this paper, we establish some quantity relationships between the dynamics of circular cylinder wakes and the rotation speed of the cylinder. It has been shown analytically that rotating the cylinder can regularize the flow behavior, and delay the transition from steady flow to turbulent flow. The work needed to overcome the drag exerted on the cylinder is provided.

The transient response of an elastic cylinder to a laser impact is studied. When the laser source is a line perpendicular to the cylinder axis, modes guided along the cylinder are generated. For a millimetric steel cylinder up to ten narrow resonances can be locally detected by a laser interferometer below 8 MHz. These resonances correspond to Zero-Group Velocity guided modes or to circumferent...

Engineers targeting DSP to FPGAs have traditionally used fixed-point arithmetic, mainly because of the high cost associated with implementing floating-point arithmetic. That cost comes in the form of increased circuit complexity and often degraded maximum clock performance. Certain applications demand the dynamic range offered by floating-point hardware but require speeds and circuit sizes usua...

The present investigation was aimed to formulate and evaluate the gastro-retentive floating microballoons of glipizide using hydrophilic polymers hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and Eudragit RS100 (RS 100) by emulsion solvent evaporation technique. The floating microballoons were evaluated using micromeritic properties, buoyancy, in vitro drug release, scanning electron microscopy and stab...

We report some experiments undertaken to investigate the origin of ordered and chaotic laminar vortex streets behind circular cylinders at low Reynolds numbers. We made simultaneous measurements of near wake longitudinal velocity and cylinder lateral vibration amplitude spectra for cylinder Reynolds numbers in the range from 40 to 160. For a non-vibrating cylinder the velocity energy spectra co...

The use of wind power is in a period of rapid growth worldwide and wind energy systems have emerged as a promising technology for utilizing offshore wind resources for the large scale generation of electricity. Drawing upon the maturity of wind turbine and floater technologies developed by the wind energy and oil and gas industries, respectively, large offshore wind energy systems have been dev...

The Satisfiability Modulo Theory (SMT) problem over floating-point arithmetic is a major hurdle in applying SMT techniques to real-world floatingpoint code. Solving floating-point constraints is challenging in part because floating-point semantics is difficult to specify or abstract. State-of-the-art SMT solvers still often run into difficulties when solving complex, non-linear floating-

We present algorithms that solve the following problem: given three ranges of floating-point numbers Rx, Ry , Rz , a floating-point operation (op), and a rounding-mode (round), generate three floating-point numbers x̄, ȳ, z̄ such that x̄ ∈ Rx, ȳ ∈ Ry , z̄ ∈ Rz , and z̄ = round(x̄ op ȳ). This problem, although quite simple when dealing with intervals of real numbers, is much more complex when consider...
