This chapter introduces the concept of handover in IS-95-based CDMA systems and WCDMA. The necessary procedures behind pilot set maintenance are examined, and the extensions of these concepts to WCDMA, cdma2000 and 1X-EV systems are also explored. Moreover, the concept of cell site selection in 1X-EV systems is described, along with its impacts to set maintenance.

Virtual and Extended Enterprises, frequently referred to as a Supply Chain are increasingly becoming a means of competitive advantage. However, most of the literature presents a case history with little attempt to generically apply the concepts of the extended enterprise to more complex industries. This paper presents an overview of the evolution from localized shop floor improvement through su...

This paper presents a data focusing method (DFM) to image extended targets using the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. The restriction on the number of transmitter-receiver antennas in a microwave imaging system deteriorates profiling an extended target that comprises many point scatterers. Under such situation, the subspace-based linear inverse scattering methods, like the MUSI...

This paper explores the ramifications of the extended cognition thesis in the philosophy of mind for contemporary epistemology. In particular, it argues that all theories of knowledge need to accommodate the ability intuition that knowledge involves cognitive ability, but that once this requirement is understood correctly there is no reason why one could not have a conception of cognitive abili...

We argue that the significance of the spatial boundary in autopoiesis has been overstated. It has the important task of distinguishing a living system as a unity in space but should not be seen as playing the additional role of delimiting the processes that make up the autopoietic system. We demonstrate the relevance of this to a current debate about the compatibility of the extended mind hypot...

I introduce the seven papers in this special issue, by Andy Clark, Jérôme Dokic, Richard Menary, Jenann Ismael, Sue Campbell, Doris McIlwain, and Mark Rowlands. This paper explains the motivation for an alliance between the sciences of memory and the extended mind hypothesis. It examines in turn the role of worldly, social, and internalized forms of scaffolding to memory and cognition, and also...

All couplings of a new heavy gauge boson to ordinary fermions can be determined in a model-independent way at a large e + e − collider for large enough statistics. No such determination is possible at LEP 200, however, because its design integrated luminosity is too low for existing and forthcoming limits on Z ′ interactions. At any rate, it should be possible to distinguish between models for ...
