Volatile sulfur compounds production by eight strains of Brevibacterium linens isolated from cheeses was demonstrated: methanethiol, dimethyldisulfide, and 2,3,4-trithiapentane. Four of these strains also produced S-methylthioacetate, an important aroma component of smear-coated cheeses. It is the first demonstrated microbiological production of a thioester.

background: methotrexate (mtx) is an anti-metabolite drug widely used in treatment of neoplastic disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. the ester derivative, ethyl pyruvate (ep) is stable in solution and should function as an antioxidant and energy precursor. this study was conducted to evaluate the protective role of ep on sperm parameters, testosterone level and malondialdehyde (mda) ...

in this study a new simple selective and sensitive spectrophotometric procedure for determination of fe(iii) is described. it is based on the formation of a colored complex between ferric iron and ethyl maltol, a strong and highly selective ligand for fe(iii). after mixing sample and reagent, and incubating at the room temperature, fe(iii)-ethyl maltol complex was extracted with different solve...

Halitosis is a common complaint involving social and communicational problems in humans and also affects the pet-owner relationship. In this randomized placebo-controlled crossover clinical evaluation, we assessed the effectiveness of a dedicated dietary supplement to improve chronic halitosis in 32 dogs of different breeds and ages. This protocol describes how to evalute the presence of oral v...

The effects of dissolved oxygen concentration and pH on the growth of Brevibacterium linens CNRZ 918 and its production of methanethiol from l-methionine were investigated. Optimal specific methanethiol production was obtained at 25% saturation of dissolved oxygen and at a pH between 8 and 9, whereas optimal cell growth occurred at 50% oxygen saturation and when the pH was maintained constantly...

OBJECTIVE morning breath contains elevated concentrations of volatile sulphur components (VSCs). Therefore, morning breath is recognised as a surrogate target for interventions on breath quality. Nevertheless, factors influencing morning breath are poorly understood. Our aim was to evaluate concentrations of VSC at the time of awakening. METHODS a procedure was developed to collect breath sam...

Several kinds of modified carbon screen printed electrodes (CSPEs) for amperometric detection of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) are presented in order to propose a methyl mercaptan (MM) biosensor. Unmodified, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPC), Prussian blue (PB), and Os-wired HRP modified CSPE sensors were fabricated and tested to detect H₂O₂, applying a potential of +0.6 V, +0.6 ...

[reaction: see text] A series of beta-thio group substituted alpha-diazo carbonyl compounds have been prepared by nucleophilic substitution reactions of thiophenol, thionaphthol, or benzyl mercaptan with beta-acetoxy-alpha-diazo carbonyl compounds. The diazo decomposition of these diazo carbonyl compounds with various transition metal catalysts, including Rh(II) carboxylates and Cu(I) and Cu(II...

CdO nanoparticles show a strong peak of Plasmon absorption in ultraviolet-visible zone. A interaction exists between the surface and aryl mercaptan compounds. Aryl compounds cause to aggregation linked DNA/RNA hence, lead widening at 550 (nm) emerging new higher wavelength. In current project, this optical characteristic is used time investigate different mercaptanes nanoparticles. The results ...
