Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Serratia marcescens were sequentially identified in a patient who underwent small bowel transplantation. Molecular typing and plasmid analysis suggested that the KPC gene was acquired by E. coli, most likely from K. pneumoniae, and was subsequently transferred to S. marcescens.

A new locus for exopolysaccharide overproduction in Escherichia coli K-12 was mapped by insertion mutagenesis. A 66% linkage to serA, which is located at 62 min on the E. coli K-12 linkage map, was shown by P1 transduction. The polysaccharide produced by the mutant was isolated and was shown to be similar to colanic acid.

Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) with serotype O157:H7 is a major foodborne pathogen. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of EHEC O157:H7 strain MC2 isolated from cattle in France. The assembly contains 5,400,376 bp that encoded 5,914 predicted genes (5,805 protein-encoding genes and 109 RNA genes).
