aim : the purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of enteropathogenic escherichia coli (epec) and shiga toxin producing e. coli (stec) strains in healthy broilers in iran.   background : stec and epec strains as diarrheagenic e. coli are among the most prevalent causative agents in acute diarrhea. domestic animals, mainly cattle and sheep, have been implicated as the principal r...

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to determine the incubation period of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC), which creates several outbreaks in a year in South Korea. METHODS We reviewed all water and food-borne outbreaks data reported to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) from 2009 to 2010 and determined their characteristics. Through this process, we can pres...

We characterized Orf5 and SepQ, two type III secretion (T3S) system proteins in enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, and showed that they are essential for T3S, associated with the bacterial membrane, and interact with EscN. Our findings suggest that Orf5 and SepQ are homologs of YscL and YscQ from Yersinia, respectively.

Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) pathotype represents a minor proportion of E. coli O103 strains shed in the feces of feedlot cattle. The draft genome sequences of 13 strains of EPEC O103 are reported here. The availability of the genome sequences will help in the assessment of genetic diversity and virulence potential of bovine EPEC O103.

Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) was found to exhibit a type III secretion-dependent, contact-mediated, hemolytic activity requiring the EspA, EspB, and EspD secreted proteins. EspB and EspD display homology to pore-forming molecules. Our data suggest a mechanism to explain the requirement for all three Esp proteins in the transfer of EPEC proteins, such as Tir, into target cells.

Discrimination of Enterobacteriaceae and Non-fermenting Gram Negative Bacilli by MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has proven to be an effective identification tool in medical microbiology. Discrimination to subspecies or serovar level has been found to be challenging using commercially available identificatio...

In this study, 210 intestinal Escherichia (E.) coli isolates from enteropathogenic diseased pigs were screened for their virulence factors (F4, F5, F6, F18, STa, STb, LT, STx2e and intimin) by PCR and serogrouped by slide-agglutination (O8:K87, O45, O138:K81, O139:K82, O141:K85, O147:K89, O157 and O149:K91). In total, 24.8% enterotoxigenic E. coli, 7.1% enteropathogenic E. coli and 5.2% oedema ...
