Resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, and Hall measurements were performed on densified nanocrystalline composite materials of undoped and Ag-doped PbTe nanocrystals to investigate the physical mechanisms responsible for Seebeck coefficient enhancement in nanocrystalline systems. The unique temperature dependence of the resistivity and mobility for these PbTe nanocomposites suggests that grain-boun...

Neuromedin beta (NMB) is a member of the bombesin-like peptide family expressed in brain, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, adrenals and adipose tissue. The aim of our study was to compare the frequency of P73T polymorphism in overweight and obese patients (37 men: age 50.6+/-11.7 years, BMI 41.1+/-7.8 kg/m(2); 255 women: age 49.0+/-11.9 years, BMI 37.9+/-6.8 kg/m(2)) with that of healthy norma...

CdSe/CdS/ZnS core-shell-shell quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by using a solution process. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images and energy dispersive spectroscopy profiles confirmed that stoichiometric CdSe/CdS/ZnS core-shell-shell QDs were formed. Ultraviolet-visible absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra of CdSe/CdS/ZnS core-shell-shell QDs showed the dominant ex...

A study of the velocity with which adenosine 5’triphosphate interacts with the carriers of the respiratory chain presents an unusual opportunity to explore the mechanism of action of the energy transfer pathway (1). Previous studies of this mechanism have been limited to: (a) systems in which a portion of the pathway toward the carriers was measured by the Oi8 exchange reaction (2)) the adenosi...

The recurrence theory for the breakdown probability in avalanche photodiodes (APDs) is generalized to heterostructure APDs that may have multiple multiplication layers. The generalization addresses layer-boundary effects such as the initial energy of injected carriers as well as the layer-dependent profile of the dead space in the multiplication region. Reducing the width of the multiplication ...

BACKGROUND This study investigates pharmacogenetic risk factors for bone mineral (apparent) density (BM(A)D) and body composition in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia DESIGN AND METHODS We determined the influence of SNPs in 4 genes (vitamin-D receptor (VDR: BsmI/ApaI/TaqI and Cdx-2/GATA), collagen type I alpha 1 (SpI), estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1: PvuII/XbaI), glucocorticoid receptor (Bcl...

Using optical-pump terahertz-probe spectroscopy, we study the relaxation dynamics of photoexcited carriers in graphene at different substrate temperatures. We find that at lower temperatures the tail of the relaxation transients measured by the differential probe transmission become slower, extending beyond several hundred picoseconds below 50 K. We interpret the observed relaxation transients ...

In this paper we determine the momentum distribution and drift velocity of hot carriers in silicon under the condition of finite supply energy. We show that the momentum distribution varies between the nearly isotropic in high field to strongly anisotropic when the carrier's energy is comparable to the supply energy.

We have experimentally studied the transient velocity overshoot dynamics of photoexcited carriers in GaAs for electric fields as great as 200 kV/cm. Time domain waveforms proportional to the velocity and the acceleration of carriers have been acquired? respectively, from guided and free-space radiating signals which contain terahertz frequency components. The measurements demonstrated that the ...
