The new Storage Ring BESSY II in Berlin Germany is a dedicated third generation synchrotron radiation source for the VUV and soft X-ray spectral range [1]. On April 22, 1998 a 1.7 GeV electron beam was stored for the first time. Despite a relatively short time for commissioning of the synchrotron radiation source, the milestones were met as scheduled. Accelerator parameters that determine the q...

We use local quark-hadron duality to estimate the purely nonperturbative soft contribution to the γ * p → ∆ form factors. Our results are in agreement with existing experimental data. We predict that the ratio G * E (Q 2)/G * M (Q 2) is small for all accessible Q 2 , in contrast to the pQCD expectations that G * E (Q 2) → −G * M (Q 2).

surface does not exceed 10 mSv. This paper describes the The Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL) Inshielding and radiation protection at the injector. jector is comprised of a linear accelerator (linac) capable of INTRODUCTION energies 5 150 MeV, a 3 GeV booster synchrotron, and a beam line to transport the electrons into the storage ring Figure 1 shows a layout of the injector. Th...

This paper describes an intercepting beam intenSity profile and position monitor which was developed at SLAC. It has excellent spatial resolution as well as signal efficiency. The instrument utilizes the electromagnetic cascade shower emission effect. Net charge leakage signals comparable in magnitude to the intercepted beam current are easily obtainable. The latest model of the instrument is d...

Numerical simulation using particle-in-cell codes is a powerful tool in understanding the nonlinear dynamics of space-charge-dominated beams. The University of Maryland Electron Ring (UMER) will explore the transport of beams with intensity previously inaccessible to circular machines. The ring will also function as a testbed for accelerator codes. Applications such as heavy ion fusion and coll...

objective: the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of tissue composition on dose distribution in electron beam radiotherapy. methods : a siemens primus linear accelerator and a phantom were simulated using mcnpx monte carlo code. in a homogeneous cylindrical phantom, six types of soft tissue and three types of tissue-equivalent materials were investigated. the tissues included muscle (s...

We analyze two designs for W-Band free electron lasers for application as laboratory instruments in the study of millimeter wave accelerators at high gradient. The first design is based on the linear induction accelerator LELIA (CEA/CESTA, France), employs a 1kA, 80-ns electron pulse, and corresponds to a helical TE11 200MW W-Band amplifier design. We analyze also a W-Band planar ubitron design...

Parameters have been studied for a high luminosity e+ecollider operating at the Upsilon 4S that would deliver a luminosity of 1 to 4 x 10/cm/s. This collider, called a Super-B Factory, would use a combination of linear collider and storage ring techniques. In this scheme an electron beam and a positron beam are stored in lowemittance damping rings similar to those designed for a Linear Collider...
