like any other learning activity, translation is a problem solving activity which involves executing parallel cognitive processes. the ability to think about these higher processes, plan, organize, monitor and evaluate the most influential executive cognitive processes is what flavell (1975) called “metacognition” which encompasses raising awareness of mental processes as well as using effectiv...

Fluorescence spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements using bisurea-pyrene probes show that they are randomly dispersed in the hard blocks of thermoplastic elastomers with matching bisurea groups, whereas they phase separate from polymers with non-matching or no bisurea groups.

simplification universal as a universal feature of translation means translated texts tend to use simpler language than original texts in the same language and it can be critically investigated through common concepts: type/token ratio, lexical density, and mean sentence length. although steps have been taken to test this hypothesis in various text types in different linguistic communities, in ...

Spatially structured population models improve the performance of genetic algorithms by assisting the selection scheme in maintaining diversity. A significant concern with these systems is that they need to be carefully configured in order to operate at their optimum. Failure to do so can often result in performance that is significantly under that of an equivalent non-spatial implementation. T...

We study monopolistic and competitive pricing in a two-sided market where agents have incomplete information about the quality of the product provided by each platform. The analysis is carried out within a global-game framework that offers the convenience of equilibrium uniqueness while permitting the outcome of such equilibrium to depend on the pricing strategies of the competing platforms. We...

We study monopoly and duopoly pricing in a two-sided market with dispersed information about users’preferences. We …rst show how the dispersion of information introduces idiosyncratic uncertainty about participation rates and how the latter shapes the elasticity of the demands and thereby the equilibrium prices. We then study informative advertising campaigns and product design a¤ecting the age...

Reviews from the two streams of research knowledge based view of the firm and dispersed work – offers evidence for knowledge gaps that exist among dispersed members. Dispersed members therefore cannot take for granted that they have a common context, making dispersed collaboration problematic. A major challenge for such teams is thus to co-create a commonly shared context. This paper examines t...

Holdup was measured at various frequencies, amplitudes, continuous and dispersed phase flow rates for binary systems in a pulsed plate column capable of providing samples at various heights. The binary systems was so selected as to cover a wide spectrum of interfacial tensions. Dispersed phase holdup was found to increase with height in a logarithmic fashion at conditions away from the flooding...

This paper describes thin films comprising acenes dispersed in a conjugated polymeric host that have a ratiometric photoluminescence response to singlet oxygen. These films also respond to irradiation of protein-bound sensitizers, which represents a solution to the problem of protein-conjugated polymer non-specific interactions.
