A mo...

The paper formulates and proves a second order interpolation result for square-integrable functions by means of locally nite series of Daubechies' wavelets. Sample values of a suuciently smooth function can be used as coeecients of a wavelet expansion at a ne scale, and the corresponding wavelet interpolation function converges in Sobolev norms of rst order to the original function. This has ap...

Wavelet-based analysis has been broadly used in the study of brain computer interfaces(BCI), but in most cases these wavelet functions have not been designed taking into account the requirements of this field. In this study we propose a method to automatically generate wavelet-like functions by means of genetic algorithms. Results strongly indicate that it is possible to generate (evolve) wavel...

We study the general problem of oblique projections in discrete shift-invariant spaces of 12 and we give error bounds on the approximation. We define the concept of discrete multiresolutions and wavelet spaces and show that the oblique projections on certain subclasses of discrete multiresolutions and their associated wavelet spaces can be obtained using perfect reconstruction filter banks. The...

During the past decade, with the birth of wavelet theory and multiresolution analysis, image processing techniques based on wavelet transform have been extensively studied and tremendously improved. JPEG 2000 uses wavelet transform and provides an integrated toolbox to better address increasing needs for compression. In this report, we study the basic concepts of JPEG2000, the LeGall 5/3 and Da...

The multiscale (wavelet) decomposition of the solution is proposed for the analysis of the Poisson problem. The approximate solution is computed with respect to a finite dimensional wavelet space [4, 5, 7, 8, 16, 15] by using the Galerkin method. A fundamental role is played by the connection coefficients [2, 7, 11, 9, 14, 17, 18], expressed by some hypergeometric series. The solution of the Po...

The appropriate weather prediction is a challenging task and it can be feasible with proper wind speed fluctuation analysis. In this current paper daubechies-4 wavelet is used to analyze the winter wind speed fluctuations due to lesser agitated wind data samples of winter. In summer abrupt changes in wind speed occurs which creates difficulty for wavelets to keep proper track of wind speed fluc...

Computation in the analog domain is very appealing from a power-consumption perspective. To implement a wavelet transform in an analog circuit, the wavelet function can be approximated by a linear system. An approach based on L2-approximation is presented, that enables largely automated approximation of wavelet functions by impulse responses of linear systems. Various continuous wavelet functio...

An identity by Chaundy and Bullard writes 1/(1 − x)n (n = 1, 2, . . .) as a sum of two truncated binomial series. A special case of this identity was rediscovered by I. Daubechies, while she was setting up the theory of wavelets of compact support. We present at least six different proofs of this identity. The paper concludes with a multivariable analogue of the identity.

Daubechies wavelets are a powerful systematic basis set for electronic structure calculations because they are orthogonal and localized both in real and Fourier space. We describe in detail how this basis set can be used to obtain a highly efficient and accurate method for density functional electronic structure calculations. An implementation of this method is available in the ABINIT free soft...
