Truncus arteriosus communis is a congenital heart malformation, which is usually repaired in the neonatal period or early infancy. It was found that the ductus arteriosus is a muscular channel and resembles the muscular artery in structure. The diameter of the ductus is equal throughout its length. In this condition, the aorta extends to the left of the trachea as in normal, while the ductus arteriosus extends to the right of the trachea and joins the descending aorta posterior to the trachea, with a cross-ribbon sign.
