Drawing from the literature in Intercultural and New Media Studies (INMS), this study explores the SlutWalk social movement, a transnational movement of protest marches. The author conducted interviews with seven SlutWalk organizers from various cities in the United States to understand what culture SlutWalk organizers are fostering through their work and the role of new media communication in ...
The modified Hodge test has an excellent sensitivity for detecting enterobacterial isolates producing Ambler class A (KPC) and class D (OXA-48) carbapenemases. Its sensitivity is low for NDM-1 producers (50%) but is increased to 85.7% by adding ZnSO(4) (100 μg/ml) in the culture medium. However, this test has a low specificity and is time-consuming.
BACKGROUND The isolation of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) has been increasing in South Korea. To date, however, the cause of this increase has not been determined, and it remains unclear whether the use of liquid media has contributed to this increase. The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors associated with NTM isolation and the impact of liquid media on NTM culture. METHODS My...
Study of fungal colonial growth is a basic method to examine their behaviour in different cultivation conditions. The influence of temperature and initial pH on growth radial velocity and growth density of Botryodiplodia theobromae RC1, was studied in order to show the growth characteristics of this fungus. Both temperature and culture medium influenced growth density, but radial velocity of gr...
Although laboratory dependence is an acknowledged problem in microbiology, it is seldom intensively studied or discussed. We demonstrate that laboratory dependence is real and quantifiable even in the popular model Escherichia coli. Here laboratory effects alter the equilibrium composition of a simple community composed of two strains of E. coli. Our data rule out changes in the bacterial strai...
Considerable advances in media development for the culture of preimplantation mammalian embryos have been made since mouse embryos were first cultured and successfully transferred to foster mothers. The purpose of this review is to detail the history of the development of chemically defined media for the culture of preimplantation embryos. Two approaches have been used to determine the composit...
necessary conditions for callus production from leaf and stem explants of norfolk island pine (araucaria excelsa l.) have been studied. ms and bm culture media containing 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 mg/l naa, iba, 2,4-d and picloram supplemented with 30 g/l sucrose were used. callus was initiated in both culture media only in the presence of picloram and in the dark, but bm culture medium produced mor...
The nature of reporting of a microbiology laboratory depends upon the quality of the culture media used. Quality of media directly affects the observations and inferences drawn from the cultural characteristics of microorganisms. Checking of different parameters of media such as growth supporting characteristics, physical characteristics, gel strength and batch contamination can help to assess ...
