Circulating tumor cell (CTC) enumeration provides prognostic but not predictive information for chemotherapy in metastatic breast cancer. Because CTC measurement is reproducible and allows molecular profiling, an assay to assess endocrine resistance was developed. Whether this CTC-based assay can be used to reliably select endocrine therapy must be tested.

In 2004, circulating tumor cells (CTC) enumeration by the CellSearch® technique at baseline and during treatment was reported to be associated with prognosis in metastatic breast cancer patients. In 2008, the first evidence of the impact of CTC detection by this technique on survival of cM0(i+) patients were reported. These findings were confirmed by other noninterventional studies, whereas CTC...

BACKGROUND The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) considered whether to reimburse computed tomographic colonography (CTC) for colorectal cancer screening of Medicare enrollees. To help inform its decision, we evaluated the reimbursement rate at which CTC screening could be cost-effective compared with the colorectal cancer screening tests that are currently reimbursed by CMS and a...

Purpose: Elevated levels or increases in circulating tumor cells (CTC) portend poor prognosis in patients with epithelial cancers. Less is known about CTCs as surrogate endpoints or their use for predictive biomarker evaluation. This study investigated the utility of CTC enumeration and characterization using the CellSearch platform, as well as mutation detection in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA...

It has been recently observed that in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with bevacizumab, circulating tumor cells (CTC) are often undetected [1]. Due to the large use of bevacizumab as first-line treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), we investigated the predictive value of CTC count in patients with mCRC treated with a first-line chemotherapy plus bevacizumab compared with ...

Circulating tumour cells (CTCs) serve as valuable biomarkers. However, EpCAM positive CTCs are less frequently detected in NSCLC patients compared to other epithelial tumours. First, EpCAM protein expression was analysed in primary and metastatic lung cancer tissue. In both groups 21% of the samples were EpCAM negative. Second, the CellSearch system identified 15% of patients (n = 48) as CTC po...

Circulating tumor cells (CTC) have been implicated in the hematogenous spread of cancer. To investigate the fluid phase of cancer from a physical sciences perspective, the multi-institutional Physical Sciences-Oncology Center (PS-OC) Network performed multidisciplinary biophysical studies of single CTC and CTC aggregates from a patient with breast cancer. CTCs, ranging from single cells to aggr...

Retrospective analysis of patient tumour samples is a cornerstone of clinical research. CTC biomarker characterization offers a non-invasive method to analyse patient samples. However, current CTC technologies require prospective blood collection, thereby reducing the ability to utilize archived clinical cohorts with long-term outcome data. We sought to investigate CTC recovery from frozen, arc...

Annotating words in a historical document image archive for word recognition purpose demands time and skilled human resource (like historians, paleographers). In real-life scenario, obtaining sample images all possible is also not feasible. However, zero-shot learning methods could aptly be used to recognize unseen/out-of-lexicon such images. Based on previous state-of-the-art method “Pho(SC)Ne...
