We study static and dynamical properties that distinguish 2D crystals constrained to lie on a curved substrate from their flat-space counterparts. A generic mechanism of dislocation unbinding in the presence of varying Gaussian curvature is presented in the context of a model surface amenable to full analytical treatment. We find that glide diffusion of isolated dislocations is suppressed by a ...

C288 this compound is crystallized from solutions in acethophenone as a host-guest complex with a ratio 2:3. In the crystal structure DEDA molecules form infinite chains in a direction [01-1] through a pair of centrosymmetric hydrogen bonds. The acethophenone molecules are situated inside different channels formed at stacking of these chains and running along [100] and [0-11] directions. At dec...

The assignment of atom types is one of the first stepsafter solving a single crystal X-ray structure analysis. It isoften difficult or even impossible to assign correct atomtypes if there are atoms with similar atomic number pres-ent in the structure solution. The Cambridge StructuralDatabase (CSD) allows to perform statistical analysesof bond lengths and delivers an ele...

Streptococcal organisms share a well-conserved, binding protein dependent, Multiple Sugar Metabolism (msm) system which is responsible for the transportation and metabolism of multiple sugars. This system is comprised of 8 proteins including 2 membrane proteins (MsmF and MsmG), an ATP-binding protein (MsmK) and the 45KDa sugar-binding lipoprotein MsmE [1]. Both native and selenomethionine deriv...

A method for determining a comprehensive chemical kinetic mechanism in macromolecular reactions is presented. The method is based on five-dimensional crystallography, where, in addition to space and time, temperature is also taken into consideration and an analysis based on singular value decomposition is applied. First results of such a time-resolved crystallographic study are presented. Tempe...

Cyclohexene nucleic acids (CeNA) contain a cyclohexene ring instead of the normal -D-2’-deoxyribose. The cyclohexene oligonucleotide GTGTACAC was synthesized using phosphoramidite chemistry and standard protecting groups [1]. CeNA is stable against enzymatic degradation and induces RNaseH activity. CeNA also forms more stable duplexes with RNA than its natural analogues [2] [3]. Crystals of GTG...
