[1] We use 22 monthly GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) gravity fields to estimate the linear trend in Greenland ice mass during 2002–2004. We recover a decrease in total ice mass of 82 ± 28 km of ice per year, consistent with estimates from other techniques. Our uncertainty estimate is dominated by the effects of GRACE measurement errors and errors in our post glacial rebound (PG...

It has been known for more than 40 years that there are posets with planar cover graphs and arbitrarily large dimension. Recently, Streib and Trotter proved that such posets must have large height. In fact, all known constructions of such posets have two large disjoint chains with all points in one chain incomparable with all points in the other. Gutowski and Krawczyk conjectured that this feat...

An old question of Yates as to whether all minimal degrees have a strong minimal cover remains one of the longstanding problems of degree theory, apparently largely impervious to present techniques. We survey existing results in this area, focussing especially on some recent progress.

Identifying herbaceous species and their composition at forest road edges and skid trails is an urgent task to prevent changes of natural and native composition of species and invasion of exotic species. The present study aimed to evaluate the herbaceous species cover grown on the forest road surface, cut and fill slopes and skid trail surface and their comparison with inside forest in order to...

In this paper we propose a smooth test of comparison for the marginal distributions of two possibly dependent strictly stationary sequences. We first state a general test procedure. Several cases of dependence are then investigated, allowing to cover various real situations. The test is applied to both simulated data and real datasets obtained from financial markets.

Automated regression suites are essential in developing large applications, while maintaining reasonable quality and timetables. Themain argument against the automation of regression suites, in addition to the cost of creation and maintenance, is the observation that if you run the same test many times, it becomes increasingly less likely to find bugs. To alleviate such problems, a new regressi...

The verdicts of most online programming judges are, essentially, binary: the submitted codes are either “good enough” or not. Whilst this policy is appropriate for competitive or recruitment platforms, it can hinder the adoption of online judges on educative settings, where it could be adequate to provide better feedback to a student (or instructor) that has submitted a wrong code. An obvious o...

Two instrumented test sections were constructed in summer 1999 at the Kiefer Landfill near Sacramento, California to test the hydraulic performance of two proposed alternative final covers. Both test sections simulated monolithic evapotranspiration (ET) designs that differed primarily in thickness. Both were seeded with a mix of two perennial and one annual grass species. Oleander seedlings wer...
