A coupled double-distribution-function lattice Boltzmann method is developed for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Different from existing thermal lattice Boltzmann methods, this method can recover the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with a flexible specific-heat ratio and Prandtl number. In the method, a density distribution function based on a multispeed lattice is used to recove...

For compressible fluids under shock wave reaction, we have proposed two Multiple-RelaxationTime (MRT) Lattice Boltzmann (LB) models [F. Chen, et al, EPL 90 (2010) 54003; Phys. Lett. A 375 (2011) 2129.]. In this paper, we construct a new MRT Lattice Boltzmann model which is not only for the shocked compressible fluids, but also for the unshocked compressible fluids. To make the model work for un...

We consider a generalized hyperelastic-rod wave equation (or generalized Camassa– Holm equation) describing nonlinear dispersive waves in compressible hyperelastic rods. We establish existence of a strongly continuous semigroup of global weak solutions for any initial data from H1(R). We also present a “weak equals strong”uniqueness result.

A stable high order numerical scheme for direct numerical simulation (DNS) of shock-free compressible turbulence is presented. The method is applicable to general geometries. It contains no upwinding, artificial dissipation, or filtering. Instead the method relies on the stabilizing mechanisms of an appropriate conditioning of the governing equations and the use of compatible spatial difference...

Based on a recent L-L framework, we establish the acoustic limit of the Boltzmann equation for general collision kernels. The scaling of the fluctuations with respect to Knudsen number is optimal. Our approach is based on a new analysis of the compressible Euler limit of the Boltzmann equation, as well as refined estimates of Euler and acoustic solutions.

We consider a weakly dissipative hyperelastic-rod wave equation (or weakly dissipative Camassa–Holm equation) describing nonlinear dispersive dissipative waves in compressible hyperelastic rods. By fixed a smooth solution, we establish the existence of a strongly continuous semigroup of global weak solutions for any initial perturbation from H1(R). In particular, the supersonic solitary shock w...

Pressure driven microscale gas flow-separation has been investigated by solving the compressible Navier-Stokes (NS) system of equations. A two dimensional explicit finite volume (FV) compressible flow solver has been developed using modified advection upwind splitting methods (AUSM+) with no-slip/first order Maxwell’s velocity slip conditions to predict the flowseparation behavior in microdimen...

We study Rayleigh–Taylor instability in both the moderately compressible and weakly compressible regimes. For the two-dimensional single mode case, we find that the dimensionless terminal velocities sand associated Froude numbersd are nearly constant over most of this region of parameter space, as the thermodynamic parameters describing the equation of state are varied. The phenomenological dra...
