We demonstrated that by properly coupling to silver nanoprisms, single CdSe/ZnS semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) exhibited suppressed blinking behavior, an enhanced fluorescence intensity ( approximately 2.5 fold), increased radiative decay rates ( approximately 12.5 fold), and antibunching single-photon emission. All these modifications significantly promote the overall performance of the prop...

A windowless flow cell has been developed for surface-enhanced Raman (SER) detection in liquid chromatography. Using colloidal silver as an active substrate, SER spectrometry of banned drugs in sport is presented. The experimental factors of primary influence on the analytical performance of the cell have been studied. The results of SER detection with the proposed cell have been compared to UV...

We demonstrate a microfluidic platform for the controlled aggregation of colloidal silver nanoparticles using surface acoustic waves (SAWs), enabling surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) analysis of oxidative damage in cells. We show that by varying the frequency and the power of the acoustic energy, it is possible to modulate the aggregation of the colloid within the sample and hence to op...

BACKGROUND Corundum ceramic is a biomaterial used as a bone graft substitute. Silver is a well known antiseptic substance with many practical, clinical applications. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to estimate soft tissue (in vivo) reaction to a new kind of ceramic implants. In our experiment, we examined the soft tissue reaction after implantation of corundum ceramic infiltrated with co...

Well-defined metallic nanobowls can be prepared by extending the concept of a protecting group to colloidal synthesis. Magnetic nanoparticles are employed as "protecting groups" during the galvanic replacement of silver with gold. The replacement reaction is accompanied by spontantous dissociation of the protecting groups, leaving behind metallic nanobowls.

We present an experimental spectroscopic study of large random colloidal aggregates of silver nanoparticles undergoing local restructuring. We argue that such well-known phenomena as strong fluctuation of local electromagnetic fields, appearance of "hot spots" and enhancement of nonlinear optical responses depend on the local structure on the scales of several nanosphere diameters, rather than ...

We investigated the applicability of the pre-embedding immunoperoxidase technique to WGAapoHRP-Au retrograde tracing. After injection of the tracer into the substantia nigra of rat, the brain was fixed and cryostat sections were immunostained for dopamine. The sections were osmicated and silver-stained to amplify the colloidal gold particles. Products of both the immunoperoxidase staining and t...

The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 2-phenoxymethylbenzothiazole were recorded and analyzed. The surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum was recorded in a silver colloid. The vibrational wavenumbers of the compound have been computed using the Hartree-Fock/6-31G* basis and compared with the experimental values. The appearance of the Ag-O stretching mode at 237cm(-1) in the SERS spectrum...

Silver has a long and intriguing history as an antibiotic in human health care. It has been developed for use in water purification, wound care, bone prostheses, reconstructive orthopaedic surgery, cardiac devices, catheters and surgical appliances. Advancing biotechnology has enabled incorporation of ionizable silver into fabrics for clinical use to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections and...

in the present study, a simple, efficient and fast synthetic strategy was reported for the green biosynthesis of silver nanostructures (i.e. nanoroads and nanoparticles) by the extract of suaeda acuminata plant, without any catalyst, template or surfactant. aqueous extracts were obtained by maceration and microwave assisted extraction (mae) methods. in mae procedure, the effect of microwave pow...
