Double R Model (Referential and Relational Model) is a computational psycholinguistic model of natural language understanding founded on the linguistic principles of Cognitive Linguistics and implemented using the ACT-R cognitive architecture and modeling environment
Sentiment Analysis (SA) of reviews refers to the task of analyzing natural language text in forums like Amazon, TripAdvisor, Yelp, IMDB etc. to obtain the writer’s feelings, attitudes, and emotions expressed therein towards a particular topic, product, or entity. It involves overlapping approaches in several domains like Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computational Linguistics (CL), Informa...
In his classic article in the first number of this journal (Sapir 1938) and in many other writings, Edward Sapir urged that a true social science, including an understanding of the nature and working of culture, must necessarily be founded on an understanding of the individuals who participate in culture and society: “In the psychological sense, culture is not the thing that is given us. The cu...
Computational Linguistics (CL) has attracted more and more interest in both academic and industry communities in recent years, since it plays an essential role in many Internet applications, including search engines, online translation systems, social networks, and so forth. Almost all CL techniques, ranging from morphological, syntactic, and semantic analysis of texts, to question answering, m...

This paper addresses the methodology of ontology construction. It identifies five styles of approach to ontologizing (deriving from philosophy, cognitive science, linguistics, AI/computational linguistics, and domain reasoning) and argues that they do not provide the same results. It then provides a more detailed example of one of the approaches.

Understanding language is of course one of the great challenges of science, and language-related technology is one of the great opportunities of Information Technology. Consequently, many different kinds of researchers work on language issues. Within the computer science community, language is of course studied by the ‘ACL community’, by which I mean researchers who regularly publish in Associa...
Our aim is to investigate computational linguistics (CL) techniques in marking short free text responses automatically. Successful automatic marking of free text answers would seem to presuppose an advanced level of performance in automated natural language understanding. However, recent advances in CL techniques have opened up the possibility of being able to automate the marking of free text ...
